Hendon's pre-season build-up continued on Thursday evening with a trip to Hillingdon Borough. Despite the Greens slipping to a 2-1 defeat, manager Gary McCann was not disatisfied with the performance of his charges.
Hillingdon, who are managed by former Hendon player Gary Meakin, have undergone a wholesale change in squad during the summer and how have a young pacy side who caused the Greens a number of problems. The first of these game after just 65 seconds when the home side took the lead.
Hendon fought back, and were rewarded in the 19th minute by a goal from Lubomir Guentchev, and both keepers were called into action to prevent further scoring in the first half.
Shortly before the break, Hendon lost the services of Craig Vargas, who was injured in a collision with James Parker, and there was a possibility that he had damaged a rib.
The second half saw the usual multitude of subsitutions from both sides, with two new trialists making appearances for Hendon. Steven St Aimie, a 22 year old defender previously with Waltham Forest, and Mandela Gbo, a 17 year old midfielder previously with Northwood.
The winning goal came with seven minutes to go, when Hillingdon launched a counter-attack and scored a breakaway goal.
