The spell was broken on Saturday when we lost our unbeaten tag to a very fine Tooting & Mitcham side. Ably skippered by Albert Grainger, who was once with Hendon, Tooting gave a grand exhibition of tight marking defensive play which seemed to put our forwards out of their stride.

Still, but for a splendid performance by Tooting's veteran goalie Wally Pearson we might have had a share of the spoils.

Congratulations to 19-year-old Peter Phillips, who came in at centre-half owing to the absence of John Fisher. Peter, making his senior debut, stood up to the test extremely well.

Left-winger Tony Charman and inside-right Albert Grainger were responsible for both Tooting goals, scored in the first half.
