This was a most disappointing match with so many of our players below par. We were struggling all the way and can consider ourselves lucky to get away with a point mainly due to the brilliance of John Swannell, the dourness of Roy Sleap, who frequently sallied up front in an effort to put life in the side, and the persistence of Danny Lakey who got our equaliser.

Roy Drake gave us the lead in the 19th minute only for Hitchin to go in front with two goals through defensive errors on our part. Roy Drake put us on terms just on half time.

Hitchin's third goal was a lucky effort, right half Taylor hitting the ball that curled inside the far post. Danny Lakey's goal came in the 37th minute of the half.
