A Hendon side made up of squad players and trialists were knocked out of the Capital League President's Cup in the first round on Wednesday night at a wet Chestnut Avenue. The home side Northwood, who included former Hendon player Dave Nolan in their line up, ran out 2-0 winners. The Greens were left ruing a host of missed chances, with at least eight good chances to score during the game.
The opening goal came in the 20th minute when Dwane Williams fouled Nolan in the box and James Hawes stepped up to fire the penalty home. Hendon had the better chances in the rest of the half to score, but were unable to find the target.
The Greens continued to waste chances in the second half and were punished on the half hour mark when Leon Callendar broke through the defence to slot the ball past Anthony O'Connor. In the final ten minutes Hendon had numerous chances to score, but even from close range they were unable to find the target.
