Saturday 30 September - Battling Hendon out of the cup

Despite a performance described by manager Gary McCann as "excellent", Hendon were knocked out of the FA Cup by Lewes this afternoon. The scoreline doesn't tell the whole story as the Greens put in their best performance of the season, controlling the game for long periods and winning the midfield battle. The first goal came in the 72nd minute through Karl Beckford, and Andy Drury scored the second with virtually the last kick of the game.

Monday 25 September - Hendon undo good work

Hendon undid all their hard work in the last five minutes as they lost 4-2 to Ramsgate this evening. Ramsgate took the lead in the 11th minute when Shaun Welford converted a penalty and they were unfortunate not to be further ahead at half time. However, in the second period, the Greens took the game to Ramsgate and were rewarded in the 62nd minute when Danny Edwards fired the ball home through a crowd of players. In the 75th minute debutant Sam Page headed Hendon into the lead, but Ramsgate hit back to score three goals in four minutes with Lee Minshull, Mo Takaloo and Michael Yianni scoring in the 86th, 88th and 89th minutes respectively.

80 years ago today, on Saturday 18th September 1926 at 3.30pm, Hampstead (as the club was then known) entertained Berkhamsted Town in an FA Cup tie, the first game ever played at Claremont Road. Sunday 17 September - Youth team round up

It was County Cup weekend for two of our youth teams yesterday, and it was good news for the under 14s who eventually saw off the challenge of Kodak winning 5-4 on penalties following a 3-3 draw after extra time. The score at full time was 2-2. Nestor Bokoli scored twice with Kevin Amankwah scoring the third. Joel Thomas was the hero however as he saved Kodak's decisive fifth penalty in the shoot out. It was less good news for the under 16s who were given something of a footballing lesson by Pinnacle who ran out 6-1 winners. Lamal Brown scored the goal for the Greens.

The under 13s were in league action for their first ever game under the leadership of manager Ben Schiffer-Harte and his assistant Nick McMullen. They were rewarded with a 6-3 victory over Harlington, Luke Azuma scoring twice with Kobina Simpson, Michael Acheampong, Abdul Sattir-Nazin and Nazir Sherzay also finding the back of the net.

Lee O'Leary extended the lead further in the 56th minute before Jamie Busby completed the scoring with seven minutes to go. The next round of the cup will be drawn on Monday afternoon.

Friday 15 September - FA Cup campaign begins

Tomorrow afternoon sees the start of Hendon's FA Cup campaign for the 2006/07 season. Arlesey Town, who are currently 7th in Division One North, are our opponents at Claremont Road following their 2-1 extra time win in the Preliminary Round over Ilford last week. Arlesey have had a good start to the season, winning one and drawing four of their five league games, although they did go down 3-1 to Slough Town in the Westview Cup on Tuesday evening. The two clubs have met twice in recent years, both in the league cup. In September 2001 the Greens ran out 4-3 winners at Hitchin Road with Dale Binns scoring twice and Bontcho Guentchev and David Adekola also finding the back of the net, while in December 2002 Hendon won 2-1 at Claremont Road with Ricci Crace and Paul Towler getting on the scoresheet. Should there be a need for a replay it would take place on Tuesday 19th September at Arlesey's Hitchin Road ground, kicking off at 7.45pm.

Tuesday 12 September - Greens win entertaining cup tie

Hendon won their first game of the season, eventually overcoming Flackwell Heath 4-3 in an entertaining league cup tie. Flackwell drew first blood in the 2nd minute when Jazz Rose deflected a corner into his own net, the Greens equalising shortly before half time when Lee O'Leary scored with a delicate lob. Flackwell restored the lead just after half time through Kieran Webb, before Jamie Clarke put the ball into his own net to equalise for the Greens on the hour mark. Rakatahr Hudson gave the greens the lead five minutes later, but Jon Donoghue equalised for Flackwell in the 78th minute. Saturday 09 September - Hendon lose at Wimbledon

Hendon lost 3-0 at AFC Wimbledon this afternoon, and their job was made all the more difficult when Wimbledon took the lead after just 27 seconds when Roscoe Dsane latched onto a poor backpass to score. The second goal came early in the second half when Steve Wales turned the ball home from close range before Dsane completed the scoring with a last minute penalty. The Greens had chances to score, with Ross Pickett having the best chance during the second half forcing Andy Little into making a fine save.

Two of our youth teams were in preseason action yesterday and there were plenty of goals. Leading the way were the under 16s who ran out 15-1 winners at Cambridgeshire side Great Paxton Colts. Leading 6-1 at half-time they went on to score another 9 in the second half. The under 16s have a much changed squad from last season and all the players played their hearts out much to the delight of managers Graeme Bourne and Eamon Finn. Meanwhile, the under 14s, who have a similar squad to last season, had a good 5-1 victory over Premier Division opponents LNER St Georges.

Sunday 03 September - Greens aim to build on point

The Greens will go into tomorrow evening's home game against Premier Division newboys Ashford Town (Middx) keen to ensure they build on the point gained at Heybridge yesterday. Without doubt the team finally earned some deserved reward for the effort and commitment they have shown so far this season. Ashford have had a mixed start to their campaign, they won their first game at Walton & Hersham on the opening day of the season, but since then have picked up just two points in their last four games, drawing against Staines Town and Boreham Wood. There are likely to be two former Hendon players in their line up in goalkeeper Tony Wells and midfielder Paul Johnson. Kick off at Claremont Road is at 7.45pm, but don't forget that for those of you unable to get to the game there will be updates on the messageboard and on the livescores website.

Not only was it the first point, but also the first clean sheet with the final score being 0-0. Hendon's best chance came late on when Jermaine Hunter was just unable to meet a cross from Wayne O'Sullivan. The result also moves the Greens off the bottom of the table.
