Thursday 29 September - Four new signings

Gary McCann has made four new signings ahead of tomorrow afternoon's game against Worthing, one of whom will already be well known to Hendon supporters whilst the other three are temporary signings. Joining on a work experience deal from Colchester United is teenage centre forward Craig Hughes, and in a similar deal from Queens Park Rangers comes England youth international goalkeeper Sean Thomas. Sean has just spent a month on loan at Hastings United who have rated him very highly. The third loan signing is central defender Marc Leach who has joined on a months loan from Yeading.

The familiar face returning is Ricci Crace, who has been released by Braintree Town this week. The club are very keen to acknowledge the co-operation from the Braintree club officials in speeding the process of transferring him. Ricci made 135 appearances in his first spell at the club, scoring 46 goals, and he will be very keen to add to that total.

It is likely that all four players will be involved tomorrow's game, and we welcome all four to the club and hope they all enjoy their time with us.

Thursday 29 September - FA Youth Cup opponents known

The under 18's will entertain Wealdstone in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup. The game will take place at Claremont Road on Wednesday, 12th October at 7.45pm. Admission is £3.00 adults and £1.00 concessions. Wealdstone have had a successful youth set up for a number of years, and this was capped last season as they reached the third round of the competition eventually losing to Liverpool at Anfield. It will be a very tough test for our youngsters, and they would be delighted to see plenty of support at the game.

Thursday 29 September - Rearranged Redbridge game is off

The rearranged Redbridge game on 8th October has been postponed, and reverts to its original date of Saturday 3rd December. The reason that it won't go ahead next week is due to a fixture clash with Barkingside who share the Oakside Stadium.

Wednesday 28 September - Youngsters progress in FA Youth Cup

The under 18's opened their first FA Youth Cup campaign for some time with a 3-0 win over Kingsbury Town. The Greens opened brightly and were unfortunate not to score an early goal. Kingsbury had a free kick which was dealt with comfortably by Conor Carroll in goal, and in the 19th minute came the opening goal courtesy of Ronald Adjekwie who scored from close range into an empty net. Hendon then took control of the game, and it was no surprise when the lead was doubled in the 35th minute when man of the match Adjekwie scored his second of the evening after fine work on the left wing by Otis Kingsley. Kingsbury made a double substitution at half time, and the change gave them a spark that seemed to disrupt Hendon who became more and more scrappy as the half progressed. Kingsbury had a few half chances to get back into the game, but the attempts either went wide or Carroll was able to deal with them well. The final goal came with a minute to go when substitute Ashraf Toughienu capped a fine performance with his first goal for the club. Manager Mark Crawford was happy to have won, but very unhappy with the second half performance. The reward for the victory is a home tie against either Wealdstone or Banbury United.

Conor Carroll, Chad Griffiths, Jackson Ellis, Narcisse Nono, Francois Gabbidon, Matthew Peart (Admir Meha 62), Jake Brennan (Mo Liban 68), Otis Kingsley, Stephan Chambers-Bignall (Ashraf Toughienu 56), Ronald Adjekwie, Eddy Mohammed. Unused subs : Akin Akinrinade, Jahbez Wilson.

This is the first year for some time that we have entered the competition, and the youngsters are keen to make a good impression. Kick off at Claremont Road is at 7.45pm, and admission is £3.00 for adults and £1.00 for concessions. A programme will be included in the admission fee.

Tuesday 27 September - Defensive error ends FA Cup dream

Hendon were made to pay this evening by the Metropolitan Police as a defensive error led to the only goal of the game. The goal came in the 20th minute when a poor clearance was sent back into the danger area and Craig Brown slotted the ball home. The Greens had plenty of possession but sadly the quality of the final ball in the final third of the pitch was lacking too often, and the Met's defence was all too rarely tested. The best chance for Hendon fell to Danny Julienne in the second half when his shot slid just wide of the post, whilst there was also a goalmouth scramble where the home side scrambled the ball clear at the fourth attempt. The defeat now means that the Greens have a blank Saturday on the 8th October as our league opponents Chelmsford City are still in the FA Cup.

Tuesday 27 September - Question and answer with Gary

Gary McCann has agreed to hold a question and answer session via the website. As we did a couple of times with Dave Anderson we are giving you the chance to e-mail your questions and we will put them to Gary at some point in the next week or two and then post his answers on the website. Questions will only be accepted by e-mailing Steve Rogers on and we promise that all questions, unless they are abusive, will be put to Gary. This is your chance to pose those questions that have been bothering you in recent weeks.

Tuesday 27 September - Brennan's screamer helps youngsters to victory

We now have the details from the under 13's win on Sunday. Having gone behind to an early goal, Dean Rosenthal equalised midway through the first half. The second goal came just 32 seconds into the second half when Damilola Thomas drove the ball home. Ryan Brennan then scored the goal of the game with a fierce drive from 25 yards before Jake Paul scored the fourth when he forced the ball home from close range from a corner. Although Pinnstars scored a second the under 13's held on comfortably to record their first win of the season.

Monday 26 September - Hendon have second chance tomorrow

The first team will be aiming to find their shooting boots for tomorrow evening's FA Cup replay at Imber Court tomorrow as they bid to see off the Metropolitan Police at the second attempt. The pitch at Imber Court is well known for being a good surface, and this is something that will hopefully help the Greens go through to face either Redbridge or Eastbourne Borough in the next round. Kick off tomorrow evening is at 7.45pm and the game will be played to a finish with extra-time and penalties if necessary.

Monday 26 September - Youth teams back to winning ways

The under 18s and under 13s both returned to winning ways over the weekend. The older age group ran out 3-2 winners at Bedfont Sports Reserves while the youngsters won 4-2 at home against Pinnstars B on Sunday morning despite going behind to an early goal. Details of goalscorers haven't yet reached us, but we will update the relevant pages as soon as we have the information to hand. The under 15's had a week off due to the fact that Bessingby Park Rangers have scrapped their B team.

Saturday 24 September - Shot shy Hendon off to replay

This afternoons FA Cup tie against Metropolitan Police ended goalless as a shot shy Hendon failed to test veteran keeper Stuart Mackenzie in goal. Hendon had considerably more possession and often looked more dangerous but rarely managed to get a shot in. Meanwhile Dave King had a fairly quiet afternoon as well, although he did have to make two excellent saves in the first half. The replay will be on Tuesday evening at Imber Court, kicking off at 7.45pm.

Thursday 22 September - Hendon look for FA Cup progression

The first team go into this weekends FA Cup tie against Metropolitan Police knowing that they are in for a much tougher test than in the previous round against Biggleswade United. Former Hendon favourites Jon Daly and Rob Haworth are likely to be in the Met Police line up as is Kevin Cooper who had a short spell with the club in the mid 90's. The clubs last met in the 1990-91 season in the FA Cup when the Greens ran out 3-1 winners at Imber Court. The game kicks off on Saturday at 3.00pm at Claremont Road.

Gary said that he was very grateful to Kieran for the effort and hard work he has put in over the past couple of months and that the parting wouldn't affect their friendship.

Tuesday 20 September - Hunter seals points for Staines

Hendon's disappointing run of league results continued this evening as they lost 2-1 at home to Staines. The performance was much improved from Saturday but after a goalless first half Dave King misjudged a backpass from Iain Duncan and to their horror the ball trickled over the line to give Staines the lead in the 57th minute. Three minutes later Staines were reduced to ten men when Tariq Nabil was sent off for a second yellow card for diving in the area. However, despite pressure from the Greens Jermaine Hunter doubled the lead in the 76th minute with an excellent curling strike from 20 yards. Hendon's efforts were rewarded with a late consolation when Danny Murphy bundled the ball home in a goalmouth scramble.

Monday 19 September - Greens look to bounce back

The first team will be looking to bounce back from the disappointing performance at Heybridge tomorrow evening as they entertain high flying Staines Town at Claremont Road. It will be a tough task for the Greens as Staines have had a very good start to the season dropping just five points in their opening seven games. They won 2-1 at Windsor & Eton on Saturday afternoon with goals from Tariq Nabil and Michael Murphy having fallen behind to a Jamie Jarvis goal. The Swans won the corresponding fixture 2-0 last season, whilst the return fixture saw a 1-1 draw at Wheatsheaf Lane with Gary Meakin scoring the goal for the Greens. Kick off at Claremont Road is 7.45pm and we look forward to seeing plenty of supporters there getting behind the team.

Sunday 18 September - Disappointing weekend all round

It has turned out to be a disappointing weekend all round as all three youth teams slipped to defeat. On Saturday afternoon the under 18s lost 2-1 to North Greenford United Social Reserves, Jake Brennan scoring the only goal. This morning at Claremont Road, the under 15s played their first competitive game but lost 5-2 to Kodak despite a spirited performance. Charlie Benson and Yemi Shodipo were on the scoresheet. The under 13s defeat came at Old Isleworthians B where they went down 2-0 in a controversial game. Full details on all three games can be found by going to the relevant team pages.

Saturday 17 September - Swifts too good for Hendon

Heybridge Swifts were simply bigger, stronger and better than Hendon this afternoon as they won 3-0 at Scraley Road. The Greens were beaten in all departments, but could not be faulted for the effort that they put in throughout the 90 minutes. Heybridge took the lead in the 27th minute through Cliff Akurang, and scored twice in three second half minutes courtesy of Sean Marks and Akurang again. Hendon did have chances, the best of which fell to Belal Aiteouakrim who fired just over the bar but Heybridge thoroughly deserved the three points. Fortunately other results have gone in the Greens favour, meaning that they remain 16th in the table.

Friday 16 September - Under 18s beat Edgware

The under 18's won their Westview Youth Cup first round tie against Edgware Town 1-0 this evening. The decisive goal was scored from the penalty spot in the 80th minute by Eddie Mohammed after an Edgware defender handled the ball in the area. It was Hendon who had the better chances to score otherwise, the best falling to Otis Kingsley, Francois Gabbidon and Stephan Chambers-Bignall. The reward for progressing in the cup is a home tie against either Redbridge or Ware who are yet to play their first round tie. They are in action again tomorrow afternoon when they entertain North Greenford United Social Reserves at Copthall Playing Fields.

Thursday 15 September - Greens back in league action

The first team return to league action on Saturday afternoon as they travel into Essex to play Heybridge Swifts. Scraley Road has generally been something of a good hunting ground for the Greens, and many games have seen plenty of goals, including a 6-5 defeat in the Full Members Cup. Last season Heybridge won 5-2 in the corresponding fixture. The Swifts have had a mixed start to the season winning three and losing three of their games so far, lying in 10th place in the league. They progressed in the FA Cup last week with a 1-0 win at Arlesey Town. The game at Scraley Road kicks off at the usual time of 3.00pm.

Wednesday 14 September - Reserves open with point

An experienced reserve side picked up a point in their opening league game this evening at Chesham United in a 1-1 draw. All ten outfield starters have made first team appearances this season but they were unable to find a breakthrough in the first half. It was Chesham who took the lead early in the second half but on the hour mark Kieran Gallagher had a chance to equalise but he missed the spot kick awarded after Youness Nabil was pulled down. However, Gallagher made amends ten minutes later with a fine strike from the edge of the area. Both sides had half chances to win the game, but a draw was probably the right result. Both Gary McCann and Andy Pape were disappointed with some of the senior players as was reserve team manager Mark Crawford.

Team : Derek Lewis, Marvyn Watson, Iain Duncan, Danny O'Sullivan, Mark Burgess, Danny Julienne, Andrew Judge, Andy Cook (Connor Carroll 70), Jimmy Fround (Adam El-Haddad 55), Youness Nabil, Kieran Gallagher (Chad Griffiths 80). Unused subs : Mo Liban, Eddie Mohammed.

Thursday 08 September - McCann disappointed with Ofori

Gary McCann has today expressed his disappointment concerning the approach by Braintree Town to sign Eugene Ofori in a full and frank conversation with Greensnet.

As was announced on the website earlier this week, the club received a seven day approach from Braintree who wanted to sign Eugene Ofori. When Gary contacted Eugene to let him know about the approach, he was surprised to discover that Eugene had already agreed terms with Braintree.

When a club wishes to speak to a non-contract player, the rules dictate that they should put in a seven day approach. The seven days commence from the date of the postmark on the letter, which in this case was 31st August although it didn't arrive in the club office until Tuesday morning. Therefore the seven days expired yesterday and today is officially the first day that Braintree are able to speak to Eugene regarding terms. As a result of his conversation with Eugene on Tuesday, Gary firmly believes that the Braintree Town management had already been in talks with Eugene despite no official approach being made.

Gary and Andy Pape are very angry that George Borg didn't follow the correct channels and contact them first to ask permission to speak to Eugene, particularly as they had both been players under Mr Borg. Andy is particularly upset as he had made several hundred appearances for Mr Borg at Enfield and Aldershot Town. AFC Wimbledon had approached the club in the correct manner regarding signing Eugene and permission was granted for Dave Anderson to speak to him although as it happened nothing came of the discussions.

Gary made it clear that the club will never stand in the way of a player if they want to move on although they will always aim to do everything in their power to persuade players to stay with the club. If Braintree had done the same as AFC Wimbledon, Gary would have happily given them permission to speak to Eugene.

Gary went on to speak of his disappointment regarding how Eugene has conducted himself in the past few days and said "Eugene has shown that he has no affinity for the club. He wasn't ill on Tuesday night as mentioned in the match report but simply didn't show up at Walton & Hersham. By doing that he let the club down, his teammates down and the fans down. He has been fined the maximum penalty by the club. He was one of the highest paid players at the club over the past three years, the club have done a lot for him since he signed and sadly Eugene has repaid this by showing no loyalty to the club preferring to go to a club that are able to pay him more than double his current wages."

Gary concluded by saying that he wants all supporters to be clear that whilst Eugene leaving the club will be a loss on the pitch he is extremely disappointed and angry at the way he and Braintree Town has conducted themselves. The situation has left a very sour taste in the mouth of everyone at the club and particularly Gary and Andy. It is expected that the transfer of Eugene to Braintree Town will be concluded in the next few days.

Tuesday 06 September - Single goal enough for Walton

A single goal was enough for Walton & Hersham to win tonights game 1-0 at Stompond Lane. In a first half which Walton controlled from start to finish, Hendon looked lacklustre and it was no surprise when the home side took the lead when Scott Edgar was left unmarked from a corner to head home. Hendon's best first half chance fell to Belal Aiteouakrim who fired a 25 yard drive just over the bar. The Greens came out with a much better attitude in the second half and did everything except score. Aiteouakrim, Ross Pickett and John Frendo all had good chances but either hit the woodwork or saw the keeper scramble the ball to safety. James Parker was lucky not to be badly injured in a very nasty challenge from Lee Riddell whilst Dave King made two good one on one saves late on in the second half.

Saturday 03 September - Dons make it two in a row

Hendon were able to build on the midweek win at Wealdstone this afternoon as they beat Bromley 2-1 at Claremont Road. The Greens took the lead in the 18th minute when Danny Julienne hit a fine shot across the goal and the Bromley keeper Andy Walker could only help it into the net. Eleven minutes later Walker was caught in no mans land when John Frendo found himself in space 30 yards out and he sent a delicious lob over the keeper and it bounced into the roof of the net. The Bromley goal came in the 79th minute when Nic McDonnell bundled the ball home, but the Greens were unfortunate not to add to their tally, Walker making a couple of very important saves.

Thursday 01 September - Reserves given rude awakening

In a game described by joint manager John Creith as "boys against men" the reserves were given a rude awakening to the standard in the Capital League as a young side were hammered 9-0 by Thurrock in the League Cup last night. Thurrock, who were fielding seven members of their first team, were 4-0 ahead at half time, and went on to score five more in the second half. Man of the match for the Greens was Danny O'Sullivan who stood out by a long way in the Hendon line up. The management will be hoping for much better things when they open their league campaign in a fortnight against Chesham United.
