Saturday 31 August - Greens pay price for missed chances

Hendon paid the price for a catalogue of missed second half chances as Yate Town equaliser deep in stoppage time for a share of the spoils this afternoon.

Luca Valentine opened the scoring in the 7th minute before Nicholas Peare equalised shortly after half time. Connor Calcutt restored the advantage with twenty minutes before Hendon wasted four clearcut chances to make the game safe.

They were made to pay in the last minute of stoppage time when Luke Spokes' shot beat Tyla Dickinson to salvage a point.

Friday 30 August - One in, one out

There's been a couple of changes to the squad announced today with one new arrival and one player moving on.

Firstly goalkeeper Max Huxter has left the club in pursuit of first-team football. Max signed just prior to the beginning of the season but has been unable to dislodge Chris Grace from the number 1 shirt. We wish Max all the best for the next steps in his career.

Incoming is 19-year old defender Harvie Gardiner from Hanwell Town. Formerly an Ebbsfleet Youth player, Harvie had a spell with North Greenford United towards the end of last season making 14 appearances and scoring once. We welcome Harvie to the club and hope he enjoys his time at SJP.

Friday 30 August - Awayday to Yate tomorrow

Tomorrow afternoon sees us make the journey down the M4 for our first ever game with Yate Town who were newly promoted last season.

After finishing 3rd in the Southern League Division 1 South last season, the Bluebells gained promotion following a penalty shoot-out success over Moneyfields in the play-off semi-final and then beating Cinderford Town 3-1 in the final to secure a return to step 3 following a 10-year absence.

This season, under the stewardship of boss Paul Britton, Yate have one win and three defeats from their opening four league matches and drew 2-2 with Exmouth Town in their FA Cup Preliminary Round tie last weekend.

The opening four matches has seen the Bluebells meet three of the fancied sides for the title. Following a 4-1 defeat against fellow new-boys Blackfield & Langley, the Bluebells picked up an astonishing 4-0 triumph over much fancied Taunton Town on the road to get themselves up and running. That was followed by a 3-0 defeat at Poole Town and then, on Bank Holiday Monday a narrow 3-2 defeat against Salisbury.

With the Greens going into the game without any major injury concerns and with confidence buoyed by that 3-1 victory over Chesham, they'll be looking to build on that success whilst Yate will be looking to get back on track after their two most recent defeats.

The postcode for the ground is BS37 7LE and is approximately 7.7 miles off Junction 18 of the M4.

After leaving the M4 take the 3rd exit onto the A46, Bath Road and follow the road for 2.1 miles. Then turn left onto the A432, Badmington Road and follow this for approximately 3.5 miles until the roundabout with the B4059. Take the 3rd exit at this roundabout onto the B4059.

Take the 2nd exit at the first roundabout and the 1st exit at the 2nd roundabout to remain on the B4059. Turn right onto North Road by The Fox pub and Lodge Road is the first road on the left. The ground is at the end of Lodge Road.

We look forward to seeing as many supporters make the trip as possible and wish everyone a safe journey.

Wednesday 28 August - Duke of Cambridge visit

It has been confirmed that attendance for the Duke of Cambridge's visit to Silver Jubilee Park on Friday 6th September will be by invitation only.

His Royal Highness' visit will be filmed by the FA as part of their Heads Up campaign and the BBC for a documentary meaning that many logistical considerations need to be taken into account.

We are aware that many supporters will be disappointed however we are required to abide by protocols set down by the FA and Kensington Palace. We will be seeking advice later this week with regards to people wanting to wait outside the car park gates and will provide a further update when we have it

Wednesday 28 August - More details on the Duke of Cambridge's visit

The Duke of Cambridge, President of the Football Association (FA), will visit Hendon FC on Friday 6th September to learn more the club's mental health outreach initiatives. The visit will form part of Heads Up, a new season-long campaign which will harness the power of football to encourage more people - particularly men - to feel comfortable talking about their mental health, and feel able to support their friends and families through difficult times. The visit also takes place the day before the club's participation in the Emirates FA Cup First Round Qualifying.

In 2017, Hendon FC launched an outreach programme in conjunction with the Brent Early Years Intervention Service to enable young people from the local community who live with mental health issues to attend training sessions at the club. Using football as a means to help improve their mental health and wellbeing, the group of young people formed the Hendon FC Mental Health team, and now attend specially tailored training sessions at the club on a weekly basis. The Duke will join a number of players on the pitch, and will hear more about how the project has helped them manage their mental health challenges. His Royal Highness will also speak to a number of the club's fans and supporters in the stands who have experienced mental health issues, to understand how football and the sense of community it provides can play an important role on their journeys to recovery.

The Duke will also spend time at Hendon with a number of the club's coaches, and will discuss their role in supporting players with their mental health. The visit coincides with the launch of The FA's new comprehensive guidance for coaches and managers, distributed to FA affiliated adult clubs. His Royal Highness will discuss the new guidelines with the Hendon FC coaches, and how it can support them in identifying the signs of mental health issues, and offer support and signposting where needed to help improve the mental wellbeing of players.

Launched at the Community Shield by The FA and Heads Together, Heads Up is a season-long campaign spearheaded by The Duke of Cambridge which will use the influence and popularity of football to show the nation that mental health is just as important as physical health. It will support the important work which is already taking place across the UK to end the stigma surrounding mental health, and will strive to raise awareness, spark conversation and signpost support for those in need. Heads Up will be visible across all levels of the game, from the elite to grassroots, and at the biggest moments of The FA's season including men's and women's England internationals and FA competitions. The campaign will conclude at the Emirates FA Cup Final on 23rd May, 2020.

Tuesday 27 August - Greens victorious

Hendon produced their most complete 90 minutes of the season to overcome a very strong Chesham United side 3-1 at Silver Jubilee Park.

After Chris Grace made a couple of vital first half saves, Tahjae Anderson marked his first Hendon start with a well taken solo goal from 20-yards out eight minutes before the break.

Connor Calcutt then extended the lead on 72 minutes tapping into an empty net after Ryan Hope's drive had hit the post before Dernell Wynter reduced the arrears with a free header from a corner eleven minutes later.

Charlie Smith made sure of the points though with a brilliantly taken free-kick from fully 25 yards as the game entered stoppage time leaving the visitors with too much to do to get back into the game.

The result lifts the Greens one place into 15th in the table ahead of Saturday's visit to Yate Town.

Sunday 25 August - Greens go down at Gosport

Hendon fell to their first defeat of the season yesterday afternoon as they lost 1-0 at Gosport Borough.

George Barker scored the all important goal in the 56th minute after a Gosport corner and in spite of plenty of endeavour from the visitors, they were unable to fashion much in the way of opportunities to equalise.

Next up are Chesham United at home tomorrow afternoon with a 3pm kick-off.

Friday 23 August - It's Gosport on Saturday!

Tomorrow afternoon sees the first team make the journey down to the Hampshire coast to God's own port, Gosport in their second away Southern League South Premier Division fixture of the campaign.

Gosport, like ourselves, had to wait until their final league game of the season to secure their status at Step 3 back in April under the stewardship of Craig McAllister and Matt Tubbs. That management team departed in the summer and was replaced by Lee Molyneaux who has set about rebuilding the squad in an attempt to keep Borough clear of the drop zone this time around.

Last season Borough thoroughly enjoyed their meetings with the Greens beating them 3-1 at Privett Park on a thoroughly filthy November afternoon and then making light of playing with 10 men for more than an hour at SJP and thumping the soporific home side 4-0 in February - a game which was memorable for the astonishing first time volley from George Barker from inside his own half that flew over Danny Boness and into the net.

Borough enjoyed a fabulous start to the season beating pre-season favourites Taunton Town 3-0 at home on the opening day, however they have lost their next two matches on the road 1-0 at Salisbury and by the same scoreline at Merthyr Town last week to currently sit 13th in the table, one place above the Greens.

For Jimmy Gray's men, they'll be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season and also break their winning duck at the same time before heading back to SJP for Monday afternoon's bank holiday game with Chesham United.

Saturday 17 August - Game of two halves

Hendon maintained their unbeaten start to the season after a game of two halves at SJP this afternoon.

After having the best of the first half and missing a host of chances, they went in at the break with only Matty Harriott's 32nd minute goal to show for their dominance.

Wimborne came back strongly to dominate after the break and deservedly drew level when Howard Hall was penalised for handball in the penalty area and Kieran Roberts tucked the penalty away to ensure a share of the spoils.

Next up for the Greens is a trip to Gosport Borough next Saturday.

Friday 16 August - Look ahead to Wimborne

Tomorrow afternoon we play host to Wimborne Town in our first Saturday home league match of the season.

Under the canny stewardship of former West Ham, Blackburn and Charlton midifielder Matty Holmes, Wimborne enjoyed a solid first ever season at step 3 last year finishing 14th level on points with ourselves but with a superior goal difference.

The two fixtures between the two sides saw goals galore with the Greens triumphing 3-2 at SJP thanks to a couple of Ricky German strikes allied with a beauty from Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick, whilst at Cuthbury in February a brave Darren Locke header salvaged a vital point in the second half to share the honours in a six-goal thriller.

There have been plenty of changes in the summer, notably with prolific marksman Tobias Holmes - who scored 132 goals in 143 games for the Magpies - has departed along with goalkeeper Gerard Benfield to Salisbury, whilst incoming players include Tony Lee from Gosport Borough who was instrumental in both of the Hampshire side's victories over us last season.

So far this term Wimborne have taken a single point from their two opening games but been unable to find the net. They'll be looking to break that duck tomorrow whilst Jimmy Gray will hope that his charges can maintain their solid start to the campaign and add an all important win to their two impressive draws thus far.

Tuesday 13 August - Arthur arrests Greens Progress

The Greens maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Met Police this evening.

In a keenly contested game, Connor Calcutt opened the scoring ten minutes before time with a header from a Kam English cross but for the second time in three days a late goal denied the Greens as Jeremy Arthur stooped to head home Ollie Knight's cross 2 minutes from time.

Attention now moves to Saturday when we host Wimborne Town with a 3pm kick-off.

Monday 12 August - Mental Health Free Ticket Offer Remains Open

Ahead of our opening home league match against Metropolitan Police we would like to offer a reminder that our offer of free entry to any home league match for anyone struggling with depression, loneliness, isolation or any other mental health condition remains in place for this season and beyond.

The offer is designed to give someone whose day to day struggles threaten to overwhelm them a distraction for a couple of hours through football, hopefully providing some respite from the ongoing and constant mental anguish they're experiencing and provide a warm welcome and safe environment for them to visit at a time when leaving the house and being in the company of others can often feel like an insurmountable obstacle.

Anyone wishing to come along to a home league game is invited to drop chairman Simon Lawrence an email at and he will arrange entry.

Monday 12 August - Former Player Update

With Jimmy Gray having completed his squad for the new season last week, a number of players who finished last season with the Greens have moved onto pastures new.

Bayley Brown and Andrew McCorkell both started in Beaconsfield Town's 1-0 defeat at Dorchester Town on Saturday whilst Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick has signed for Salisbury and had a penalty saved in their 2-0 defeat at Chesham United at the weekend.

Lewis Toomey and Darren Locke both played against us for Berkhamsted last week in our final friendly and JJ da Cruz has signed for Isthmian League side Heybridge Swifts.

James Hammond played for Wingate & Finchley against us in pre-season as well, however he wasn't part of their squad for their opener at Bowers and Pitsea whilst Junior Osborne's whereabouts are currently unknown.

Monday 12 August - Met Police Preview

Tomorrow evening sees us kick off our home campaign with the visit of Metropolitan Police.

The Met are coming off the back of the finest season in their history and one which, in any other year, would have seen them gain promotion to the National League South.

After finishing last season in third place, they beat Salisbury in the play-off semi-final before despatching Poole Town in the final to take them into the Step 3 South Super Final against Isthmian League side Tonbridge Angels. It proved a step too far for the Blues, as they went down 3-2 at Imber Court.

In addition to their near success in the league, which included a double over the Greens (3-1 at home and 3-0 at Imber Court), they hosted Newport County in the first round of the FA Cup, going down 2-0 to the Exiles, and won the Surrey Senior Cup with a 2-0 win over Tooting & Mitcham United.

In spite of losing some crucial players (Ethan Chislett has joined Aldershot Town and striker Max Blackmore has re-signed for Westfield), boss Gavin MacPherson has kept the nucleus of last season's side together including, crucially, Jack Mazzone who will be well known to Greens fans for his spell with us towards the beginning of the decade. One or two additions have also been made including Bilal Sayoud, who made a couple of substitute appearances for us last season, following his release by Enfield Town.

Their season didn't begin as they might have liked, however, as they went down 2-0 at Imber Court against the other newly relegated side from the National League South, Truro City. They will be keen to get their season up and running at the second time of asking whilst Jimmy Gray will be looking to build on the encouraging display at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday 11 August - Middlesex Senior Cup Draw

The draw for the first round of the Middlesex Senior Cup was made on Friday and we have received a bye.

Other teams to have received an exemption at the first stage are Harrow Borough, Brentford B, Barnet, Hayes and Yeading United, Wealdstone and Hampton and Richmond Borough.

We will bring you details of the second round draw when we have it.

Saturday 10 August - Greens denied at the death

Hendon very nearly came away from their opener at Weston-,super-,Mare with all three points but were denied by an equaliser four minutes into stoppage time.

Luke Tingey gave the Greens a dream start after 6 minutes with a near post header before Kameron English extended the lead thirteen minutes later capitalising on a goalkeeping error.

Nick McCootie reduced the arrears five minutes before the break and Hendon had to withstand heavy pressure throughout the second half, digging in. With a minute of stoppage time remaining the hosts' perseverance paid off and Ben Whitehead kept his head to slot past Chris Grace to salvage a point

Friday 09 August - Weston-super-Mare Preview

Tomorrow we finally begin the new league season with a first ever visit to Weston-super-Mare.

The seagulls have returned to the Southern League after relegation last season from the National League South of whom they were one of the founder members.

Their pre-season campaign has seen them take on a number of local professional clubs and includes an 8-1 defeat against a full-strength League 1 Newport County side, however it also includes an excellent 2-1 triumph over Taunton Town in the Somerset Premier Cup Final.

After a difficult 2018/9 season, the club under the stewardship of Scott Barlett, will be looking to bounce back at the first time of asking and are one of the fancied sides in the league this season. With the weather forecast threatening unseasonally high winds, a tough and keenly fought encounter looks to be on the menu for both sides as they look to make a positive start to the new campaign.

Thursday 08 August - Two more join

Ahead of the big weekend kick-off, Jimmy Gray has added two further faces to his squad.

Goalkeeper Max Huxter has signed from Bromley, where he was last season. Max, who is 24, was in goal for our friendly on Tuesday night at Berkhamsted.

Also joining is Tahjae Anderson, a 19 year old striker who was also with Bromley last season and also had a spell at Herne Bay. Tahjae had spent pre-season with Ebbsfleet United and was offered a deal, but turned it down in search of more regular playing time.

We welcome both Max and Tahjae to the club and wish them well for their time at SJP.

Wednesday 07 August - PP Wealth to Sponsor Home Cup Matches

We are delighted to be able to announce that PP Wealth, currently sponsors of the Player of the Month award, have agreed to sponsor all home cup matches in the 2019/20 season.

The agreement will cover all home matches in the FA Cup, FA Trophy, League Cup, Middlesex Senior Cup and London Senior Cup.

Once again we'd like to thank Colin Tate and his colleagues at PP Wealth for their continuing support of Hendon Football Club.

Wednesday 07 August - Valentine's Stay Confirmed

Hot on the heels of his early second half strike last night at Berkhamsted, forward Luca Valentine has signed for the new season.

Luca has been a fixture for the Greens during pre-season scoring breaking Edgware's hearts with a double in the early training game and was with Staines Town last term.

We welcome him to SJP and wish him a successful time with the club.

Posted at 11:33

Wednesday 07 August - Greens finish with a win

Hendon finished their pre-season build-up with a 3-2 win at Berkhamsted last night.

Kameron English opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a well taken left-footed finish before Dan Williams converted Connor Calcutt's adroit far post knock back on the stroke of half time.

A trialist extended the lead 29 seconds in the second period as the Greens briefly threatened to run riot, however the hosts took advantage of two Hendon defensive errors to reduce the arrears and were indebted to two fine saves from a trialist goalkeeper to secure the win.

Focus now switches to the beginning of the league campaign and the opening fixture on Saturday at Weston-super-Mare.

Saturday 03 August - Greens go Goalless

Hendon's latest pre-season warm-up saw them draw 0-0 in a keenly contested friendly with Southern League Central Premier Division side St Ives Town this afternoon.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, both goalkeepers were forced into one excellent save each with Chris Grace making a solid stop early on and the home custodian denying a trialist about twenty minutes from time.

The final warm-up sees us travel to Berkhamsted on Tuesday night. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.

Friday 02 August - Newman and a New man sign

Two more players put pen to paper at training last night to further reinforce James Gray's squad ahead of the new season.

Matty Newman has overcome the injury problems that limited his impact last season and re-signed whilst Arash Abdollahi has also signed forms. He was part of our successful Under-23 squad last season.
