Thursday 30 August - Weekend preview

This weekend the first team entertain Sutton United at the LOOT Stadium. Sutton have had a miserable start to the season, and currently lie 21st with just 1 point from their 4 games. They will be keen to pull away from the foot of the table, just as Dave Anderson's side will be keen to continue the improving form we have seen over the past couple of games and hopefully earn our third win in a row. In a bizarre twist of the fixtures, the reserves travel to Gander Green Lane to face Sutton's reserve team. Both games kick off at 3.00pm. Supporters are more than welcome to stay behind after the game to watch the Germany v England match on the TV screens in the bar.

Monday 27 August - Borough go down again

Hendon fans were delighted to see a similar performace to last seasons' at Harrow this afternoon, which saw Hendon run out comfortable winners. Hendon always looked more comfortable with numerous chances, Haule converting the first by cooly slotting home after 4 minutes, and Binns calmly scoring one of his chances in the 50th. In all fairness, Harrow performed better than in last years game, but still never looked like causing their former 'keeper, Hook, any trouble.

Monday 27 August - Clarke reaches major milestone

Simon Clarke made his 300th appearance on Saturday afternoon against Boreham Wood. He made his debut on 19th August 1995 at Enfield after signing from Kettering Town, and has been a regular in the starting line up ever since, despite being transfer listed by both Neil Price and Frank Murphy at one point. He came to the club as a midfielder, but under Neil Price he moved into the left back slot, and is now regarded as one of the best left backs in the league, and has been Hendon's most consistent performer over the past six years.

Clarke has been heard to say that the day he leaves Hendon will be the day he packs in playing football, with the loyalty that Clarke has show towards the club during several wage cuts not being seen very much these days, loyalty that is much appreciated by the supporters. In his time at the club he has scored 16 goals, the first coming against Chertsey Town in September 1995, the most recent on Tuesday against Billericay Town.

The Greensnet team thank Simon for all his efforts over the past six years, and hope to see him playing for the club for several more years.

Sunday 26 August - Doc on form

Hendon FC hosted a very successful gentlemen's evening on Friday night with special guest Tommy Docherty. The Doc, who enjoyed a long and successful playing career before moving to the dugout with a large number of teams, including Chelsea, QPR, Manchester United and Scotland, regaled the audience with tales from his playing and management life. Just as in his career, Docherty was honest about players and style. He followed his talk with a question and answer session with the audience. Adding to the entertainment was comedian Alan Reed, who had the audience in stitches with his routine.

Saturday 25 August - Greens gain three points

Hendon gained their first three points of the season at the LOOT Stadium against an unconvincing Boreham Wood side. Lee Harvey opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with an own goal and Dale Binns stretched the lead early in the second half blasting the ball past Chris Taylor's near post. However, Hendon didn't take their chances to finish off the game and instead a nail-biting finish was set up as McDonald scored from a Boreham Wood corner.

Hendon fielded three debutants, David Hook, Michael Woolner and Ricci Crace in their starting line up with fellow debutant Jon-Barrie Bates on the bench. The Purfleet goals came from Martin Buglione in the 9th minute and Martin Ling in the 37th minute.

Friday 17 August - Under 18s draw with Wealdstone

Steve Neville's under 18 side had their first run out this evening and earnt a very creditable 4-4 draw against a Wealdstone side that have been training together for much of the summer. The Hendon scorers were Anthony Olagundoye, Steve Ruddy, Adam White and Daniel Henderson. The team have just three days to wait until their first competitive game which takes place on Monday evening away to Kingsbury Town.

Thursday 16 August - Weekend preview

This weekend sees the first team and reserves open their league campaigns. The first team travel to Purfleet on Saturday afternoon. The Thurrock Hotel has not been a happy hunting ground for the club, the last league win there coming in October 1995, back in the days of Mick Brown. However, the squad will be full of confidence after the win at Stevenage, and hopefully will be able to get the club off to a good start.

Meanwhile, for those that are unable to travel to Purfleet, and are still looking for a game, why not pop down to the LOOT Stadium and support the reserve team, who entertain Corinthian Casuals in their first game of the season in the Suburban League. Alan Rolnick and his players would be delighted to have some support from those who aren't at the first team game.

Also, don't forget that tomorrow evening, the Under 18 side, managed by Steve Neville, play against Wealdstone's youth side at Broadfields Sports Club in Harrow Weald, just off Headstone Lane. The kick off is at 6.30, so if you are not otherwise occupied, why not pop down and support the youngsters who are the future of Hendon FC.

Saturday 11 August - Boro lose to Greens

Hendon outplayed Stevenage today for much of today's game, coming away with a deserved win due to a goal from Ross Pickett. Stevenage started with chances to put themselves three or four up by the 20th minute, but failed to score, most chances being put straight at Hook. Hendon gradually came into the game, however, and just before half-time Binns' cross eluded several players for Pickett to head in at the far post. The second half brought little of note as Hendon looked the more likely to score, but Pickett was asked to leave the pitch after several late challenges.

Friday 10 August - More travel details for Stevenage

As mentioned earlier this week, Junction 7 of the A1(M) is closed to all traffic that is not going to the Knebworth Music Festival. The suggested alternative route is to leave the A1(M) at Junction 6. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit (A1000/B197). At the next roundabout take the 4th exit (B197) towards Knebworth and Stevenage. Follow this road through Knebworth until you reach the next roundabout. Take the second exit here, and the third exit (Monkswood Way) at the following roundabout. The ground should then be visible. Suggested parking is in the car park on Broadhall Way, so at the next roundabout take the 4th exit, and the car park is on the left.
