Monday 31 July - Arthur Peel

We were sorry to hear of the passing of former player Arthur Peel, who died a few days ago.

Arthur made his debut on 3 March 1964, our first season in the Isthmian League, a 5-0 win over Hitchin Town at Top Field, and played his final game exactly 13 months later, a 6-0 defeat of Corinthian-Casuals at Claremont Road, when he scored the last of his six Hendon goals. A right-winger, Arthur played almost no part in the run to the Amateur Cup victory over Whitby Town, but he did net one of the goals in our 8-0 Middlesex Senior Cup semi-final victory over Harrow Town. Earlier in the season, he played in FA Cup tie against Port Vale and also won Middlesex County honours whilst with Hendon.

In his 13 months, Arthur found himself behind Roy Drake in the pecking order for the No.7 shirt, but he still made 37 appearances for the Greens (29 in the Isthmian League and eight in various cup competitions). When he left Hendon, Arthur joined Wembley as Player-Coach.

With thanks to Chris, Steve and Phil Rogers, yet again, for the awesome amount of information available on our excellent website and to Peter Lush for the information in the Hendon history book.

Tuesday 25 July - Greens beaten by Ebbsfleet

The first team were beaten 3-2 by a very strong Ebbsfleet United side, but put in an excellent performance, giving their National League opponents some tough times, particularly in the first half.

The opening goal fell to the Greens and saw Niko Muir slip the ball home after excellent work from Keagan Cole in the 16th minute.

Ebbsfleet equalised in the 55th minute through the experienced Danny Kedwell, and further goals from Darren McQueen and Danny Mills looked to have made the game safe, but Lewis Davis made the last couple of minutes interesting with an outstanding curling shot.

Saturday 22 July - Experienced midfielder becomes a Green

The club is delighted to announce the signing of defensive midfielder Michael Corcoran, who has previously enjoyed spells at Conference South sides Wealdstone and Chelmsford City. He began his career at Cardiff City, before joining Oxford United and then Rushden & Diamonds.

Gary McCann said "I'm really pleased to sign such an experienced player. I'm looking forward to working with Corcs and he will add more strength and nouse to the squad. His minutes have only been held up by a quad niggle. The group is really starting to take shape."

Michael Corcoran said "I am delighted to be signing for Hendon. I've had some off-the-pitch issues in the past but these are well and truly behind me and I'm very grateful that Gary, the board and the club have put their faith in me."

Saturday 22 July - Two full backs join the squad

Following today's friendly at Dunstable Town, we are pleased to confirm that two more players have joined the squad, and we are hopeful that at least one more will be joining in the next few days.

After impressing this afternoon, attacking left back Cameron Currie has signed league forms. The 18 year old was at Cockfosters last season and has also played for Ware.

A player who impressed in the SJP Community Cup last weekend, James Rogers-Oben, has also signed on. The exciting wing back was previously at Molesey and has also been with Southall and Woking.

Saturday 22 July - Win in the rain at Dunstable

The first team continued their preparations for the new season with a 2-0 win at Evostik Southern Premier Division Club Dunstable Town on a cool, wet afternoon.

The first 10 minutes or so belonged to the home side, but the Greens took the lead in the 18th minute when Leo Pedro finished off a fine move. The second goal came shortly before half time courtesy of an excellent finish from Keagan Cole.

The second half saw the Greens control the game and create a number of chances, but efforts either went narrowly wide, or the forwards were just unable to get the decisive touch.

Saturday 22 July - Brief report from AGMs

The Supporters Association and Trust AGMs took place at Silver Jubilee Park on Wednesday evening giving both organisations a chance to reflect on the transitional season on and off the pitch last year and looking forward to the new campaign with renewed optimism.

Outgoing Supporters Association chair Sandra Wood, Supporters Trust chair Bryan Roberts and the football club chairman Simon Lawrence all addressed those present with the theme very much around looking to the future now that the transition to Silver Jubilee Park has been made.

There was an appeal for more supporters to come forward and volunteer on matchdays whether it be by selling 50/50 tickets around the ground before the game, helping in the club shop or assisting in the boardroom and help lighten the load on those that already make a big contribution by assisting, and also for everyone to work together to try an increase membership of the Association and Trust.

Sandra Wood announced that she was stepping down as Supporters Association chair to be replaced by her husband Tony, whilst John Rice has rejoined the committee in the capacity of Secretary.

The mood from all three speakers was one of cautious optimism as the club is in a more stable and secure state than it has been in more than a decade, however we cannot rest on our laurels. If we want the club to progress then everyone needs to continue to do what they can to grow the fanbase by bringing friends and family to matches, to contribute what they can financially whether through monthly pledges or one of the many available sponsorship packages. Simon closed the meeting by passing on his personal thanks to everyone for their continued support of our football club.

HFC Trust Board : Bryan Roberts (chair), John Rogers (secretary), Mike Harte (treasurer), Cyrus Cooper, Dai Cooper, Eddie Edwards, Simon Lawrence, Steve Lytton

HFC Supporters Committee : Mike Hogan (Life President), Tony Wood (chair), John Rice (secretary), Sandra Wood (assistant secretary), Graham Rice (treasurer), Bernard Lawrence, John Hodson, Nick McMullen, Paul Sachdev, Steve Taylor, John Rock

Sunday 16 July - Hendon win SJP Community Cup

A Hendon side containing a mix of current squad members and trialists won the SJP Community Cup thanks to a convincing 4-1 win over Hitchin Town on a warm afternoon.

The team played some very good football, especially going forward, and went ahead in the 15th minute through Andrew Iwediuno. However, within a minute the scores were level after a defensive mishap allowed a Hitchin forward to score.

The Greens continued to push forward, and were rewarded by going back in front in the 27th minute when Josh Walker finished off a fine move.

Goal number three came in the 71st minute, courtesy of a perfect free kick from Daniel Uchechi which was floated into the top corner, and Uchechi was on hand to score the fourth shortly before the final whistle.

Saturday 15 July - Greens beat Hemel in SJP Community Cup

The Greens put in a good performance this afternoon against a Hemel Hempstead Town side and ran out 3-1 winners.

The opening goal came in the 29th minute when Niko Muir converted a penalty after Kezie Ibe had been fouled in the 18 yard box. Within 60 seconds, Muir scored his second when he was sent clear of the defensive line and he slid the ball home off the post. In the period before half time, Melvin Minter made two excellent saves to keep the two goal lead.

Hemel pulled a goal back in the 58th minute, but the Greens made the game safe when Tarum Dawkins fired home.

In the other game this afternoon, Hitchin Town beat Hayes & Yeading United 2-0, so the Greens will play the Canaries at 3:30pm in the final of the SJP Community Cup after Hemel and Hayes have played the 3rd/4th play-off.

Tuesday 11 July - Greens have good first run out

The first team had their first friendly run out of the summer on a very wet evening at Silver Jubilee Park.

With a number of trialists getting a run out during the match, it was Hanwell who took the lead in the 3rd minute. However a few minutes later Zak Joseph equalised after good work from Niko Muir.

Leo Pedro, one of the trialists who was with Uxbridge last season, put the Greens ahead in the 14th minute, and then scored again in the 28th minute with a fine effort.

The second half was marred to what appeared to be a serious knee injury to a Hanwell player, and after he had been stretchered off, the game was evenly matched with no further goals.

Tuesday 11 July - This weekend's charity bucket collections

This weekend's SJP Community Cup will see two bucket collections for charity take place.

On Saturday, we will be collecting for the Bradley Lowery Fund. As you may be aware, Bradley was a 6 year old Sunderland fan who captured the hearts of the footballing community over the past year with his fight against Neuroblastoma, with Jermain Defoe becoming one of his best friends. Neuroblastoma is a rare form of cancer that primarily affects children. Bradley sadly lost his battle against this illness last week and all proceeds will go towards his fund.

On Sunday, we will be collecting for the Grenfell Tower Fund which is supporting the survivors and those displaced by the horrific fire in North Kensington last month. Gary McCann has lived in the area for most of his life, and all proceeds from this collection will go towards continuing to provide support for those affected by the trafic events last month.

Please give as generously as you can.

Monday 03 July - Player Sponsorships still available

Don't leave it too late to sponsor your favourite player - sponsorships are selling well.

So far, we have raised over £2,500 in player sponsorship, and the more we raise, the more money Gary has to continue strengthening the squad.

You can see who is available by going to our Player Sponsorship page and remember that this season, there are two sponsorship slots for each kit, so there are plenty of gaps still to be filled.

If you do want to pledge sponsorship, please contact Simon Lawrence on

Saturday 01 July - U13 girls finish season in style

The Hendon U13 Girls recently returned from Nottingham after winning the prestigious ACES National Finals. The girls were invited to represent North London after a formidable season, which saw them winning the Capital Girls League, Capital Girls League Cup and the London FA Cup.

The ACES National Tournament was established to showcase elite Boys and Girls clubs playing at grassroot level across age groups of 12 to 17. The event is invitational only and the teams selected have had to dominate their respective region of which there are 16 in all. Hendon were pitted against teams from as far afield as Glamorgan in Wales to Washington in the North East.

On the road to the final, the girls competed in a group stage, winning two of the games and losing one against the run of play. After a knock out stage the girls progressed to the quarter final beating Birmingham comfortably 2-0. The semi-final saw the girls drawn against Leicester but again Hendon saw them off with a 2-0 victory.

The Final represented a tough challenge in a very close contest against Washington - who had previously won the Tournament for three successive years. Hendon were held 0-0 at full time which led to the dreaded penalty shoot-out. After great goal keeping and decisive penalty taking and much nail biting from players and parents alike the North London representatives won 6-5. The win represents the first time a team from London have won the tournament.

Head Coach, Ben Moore and Assistant Coach Dean Harrington commented "Hendon FC Girls are an exceptional bunch. Their collective and phenomenal successes in the Capital Girls League, the Capital Girls Cup, the League Cup and now the ACES Nationals this season is all down to this special group of personalities.

"The style and quality of the football this team plays, the intelligence and understanding they now possess, their willingness to constantly improve and better themselves and (most importantly) their collective relationship with one another, their closeness and the way they care for each another as equals, makes them a unique group.

"To say that we, as managers, feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work with such a talented group of individuals as these, wouldn't really go any of the distance in summing up just how special these past few years have been.

"To complete the season as National Champions has been a tremendously emotional experience for all involved. We are just so proud of these young people. Had any of these individuals not been a part of this team over this time, it really wouldn't have been the same and we fear that they might not all have the great memories they now have."

Robert Morris (Honouary Vice President of Hendon FC) added, "The whole club are immensely proud of the girls magnificent achievement. Credit must go to Ben and Dean who have worked tirelessly with the squad to achieve this level of excellence. All in the Borough should be proud."

The Hendon girl players by squad numbers are 1. Ebony Ogbodu-Wilson, 2. Kiara Van Der Geest, 3. Sophie Cheeseman, 4. Haneeka Thandi, 5. Lili Wondwossen-Burnett, 6. Ellie Clark, 7. Edona Malaj, 8. Jeniece Benjamin, 9. Laicia Roberts-Thompson, 10. Charlotte Kiely, 11. Nicole White, 12. Emma Nolan, 14. Leyla O'Brien, 15. Gemma Selby, 17. Leriem Ferhat, 18. T'yana Nee-Chambers, 21. Liana Sideras
