Tuesday 26 July - Ivor Arbiter RIP

Hendon Football Club announce with deep regret that the Chairman, Ivor Arbiter, died on Tuesday morning, 26 July. Mr Arbiter, who was in his mid-70s, had been ill for some time.

Ivor, a local businessman who proudly boasted of his goalkeeping exploits as a young man, became Chairman of Hendon Football Club in August 1994, saving the club from extinction. He had previously been the clubs shirt sponsor for two seasons. The Arbiter Group, a big player in the music and entertainment field, were exclusive stockists of the Fender range of guitars and the Fender logo appeared on Hendon shirts for six seasons.

In the 11 seasons of Ivors chairmanship, Hendon Football Club significantly raised its profile, especially through the Brent Cross Banqueting Suite which was a jointly funded project with Barnet Council.

On the field, the club enjoyed some fine moments, none more so than in November 1997, when Hendon defeated Leyton Orient in the FA Cup first round. Four consecutive appearances in the FA Cup competition proper, two of which ended in the second round, was a run of success not seen at Claremont Road for more than two decades. There were also a number of top-six finishes in the Ryman League Premier Division.

There are no plans for an immediate announcement of a new chairman. A club spokesman said, "At this time our thoughts are with his family - he leaves a wife and a daughter, plus a number of grandchildren - the football side can wait."

Saturday 23 July - Six goals shared at Carshalton

Hendon shared six goals this afternoon as they drew 3-3 in a pre-season friendly at Carshalton Athletic, who play in Nationwide South. The Greens took an early lead when Kieran Gallagher coverted a spot kick after John Frendo was upended in the area. Carshalton equalised in the 22nd minute through Des O'Connor, and the same player put the Robins ahead early in the second half. Martin Vrhovski equalised with a fierce volley in the 62nd minute, but Carshalton regained the lead when Laurent Hamici fired home a screamer of a shot in the 87th minute. Tuesday 19 July - Reserves open with win

The reserves put in a good performance against Clapton's first team this evening as they ran out 2-1 winners. The line up was mostly made up of members of last year's under 18 and under 16 teams, and they more than matched their more senior opponents in terms of strength and skill. The first goal came in the 11th minute when Christian Henao knocked the ball home after the Clapton keeper had kicked the ball against one of his defenders. The lead was doubled two minutes into the second half when captain Connor Carroll headed home from a long throw. Clapton were awarded a penalty with about ten minutes to go, but Siki Kambala made a good save with his feet before the home side scored their consolation with a scrambled effort shortly before the final whistle. Managers Mark Crawford and John Creith were delighted with the performance but both admitted that there was lots of work to do before the start of the season in a few weeks time.

Team : Siki Kambala, Matthew Peart, James Dabengwa, Connor Carroll, Martin Westcott, Apacha Ayala, Eddie Mohammed, Otis Kingsley, Christian Henao, Bradley Bubb, Jake Brennan. Subs : Marcel Byfield, Mohammed Liban, Michael Creith, Marvin Tabi, Narcisse Nono.

Saturday 16 July - Greens win 50 years on

50 years after losing 2-0 to Bishop Auckland in front of 100,000 at Wembley Stadium, Hendon turned the tables with a 3-0 victory against the Bishops on a warm afternoon at Claremont Road. The Hendon line up included the returning Mark Burgess, Martin Vrhovski and Kieran Gallagher, along with trialists Tony Perfect, Kevin Chakaodza, Lamine N'Dour and Billy Matthews. The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute when Chakaodza scored with a beautiful chip over Bishops keeper Marc Riches. The lead was doubled soon after half time courtesy of a close range goal from skipper Ren Street and the third and final goal came five minutes from time when Tony Perfect fired the ball home from the edge of the eighteen yard box. It was a good workout for the Greens as they look to work hard to ensure a good start to the league season in five weeks time.

Thursday 14 July - Tough start for Greens

The Greens face a tough start to the league season with an away game against Braintree Town on Saturday 20th August. The Iron were one of the teams challenging at the top of the table last year and are sure to be a team to watch once again this season under the leadership of George Borg. The first home game will be played on Tuesday 23rd August when league newcomers Fisher Athletic are the visitors for what will be another awkward fixture as Fisher appear to be one of the teams with some money to spend.

There is a different look to the bank holiday fixtures this season. Our Boxing Day fixture is away to Leyton with the reverse fixture taking place on Easter Monday, while we will travel to Northwood to play Wealdstone on August Bank Holiday Monday, with the reverse game being played on Monday 2nd January. The final home game of the season is due to be played on Saturday 22nd April when we entertain AFC Wimbledon, and the following week we end the season with a seaside trip to Margate, who should be back at their Hartsdown Road ground for the start of the new season.

Monday 11 July - Youth teams 2005/06
