Saturday 31 July - Greens lose to late goal

Hendon lost to a late Vinnie John goal as they went down 2-1 at East Thurrock United this afternoon. On a hot, sultry day the Greens conceded an early goal when Danny Butler turned the ball into his own net. However within ten minutes John Frendo equalised as he latched on to a half blocked free kick to fire the ball across the keeper. Two minutes later Mark Nicholls missed a penalty after Eugene Ofori had been pushed in the area and it was Hendon that had the better chances in the remainder of the first half. As the heat took its toll and both sides made multiple changes there was little in the way of chances in the second half until Vinnie John was left unmarked at the far post from a Ricky Clarke cross. Manager Tony Choules was much happier with the performance however, and felt that the squad was progressing in the right direction as we approach the start of the new campaign.

Tuesday 27 July - Dons lose at Berko

Hendon lost 3-1 at Berkhamsted Town this evening in the third friendly of the pre-season campaign. The Greens put in a very good first half performance and deservedly took the lead after 16 minutes when Dave Hunt scored following some good build up play involving Richard McDonagh and John Frendo. Twelve minutes later Frendo had a goal inexplicably disallowed for offside and shortly before half time Berkhamsted equalised with a goal that had a strong suspicion of offside about it! Following the half time changes, Hendon lost their shape and were punished as Berkhamsted scored in the 61st and 76th minutes. The Berkhamsted substitute keeper was in fine form and kept out chances from Frendo and Eugene Ofori with excellent saves.

Tuesday 20 July - Greens open with victory

Hendon took to the field for their first friendly this evening at Boreham Wood, fielding a starting line up that contained eight players who had previously made first team appearances in the form of Dave King, Scott Cousins, Mark Burgess, James Burgess, Dave Hunt, Jaz Rose, John Frendo and the returning Rene Street. Also involved tonight from the bench were Luke Thornton and Eugene Ofori. New faces in the starting line up were Dave Nolan and Mark Nicholls from Northwood, and Richard McDonagh from Hemel Hempstead Town.

Also on the bench were Wayne Carter, also from Northwood, Usif Bangura, Spencer Nelson-Wright and Tom Woodcraft. Named in the programme but unused tonight were Dale Binns, Danny Butler (from Wealdstone) and Danny Julienne (another one from Northwood).

In a game better described as fractious rather than a friendly the Greens took the lead in the second minute when Nicholls fired home a direct free kick after Frendo had been fouled, and it was Frendo himself that doubled the lead shortly before half time. The best chance in the second half fell to Ofori who hit the post shortly before the final whistle.

Tuesday 20 July - Youth team round up

The Under 12's were the first Hendon team in action in pre-season this year on Sunday morning, and despite going down to a heavy 14-0 defeat to Borehamwood 2000, manager John Creith was able to find plenty of positives from the performance and was confident that the squad would be ready when the competitive season starts in September. He is however looking for left sided players, so any youngsters that are interested in playing for the Under 12's should either e-mail us on, or contact the club direct. The same goes for any other youngsters who are would like to trial for the other age groups.

Sunday 18 July - Arsenal shirt up for auction

As one of Dave Anderson's last acts as manager of Hendon FC, he managed to obtain a framed shirt signed by last season's unbeaten Premiership winning Arsenal squad, which was presented to the Supporters Association to obtain further funds with. The Association have decided - due to the valuable nature of the item - that a closed auction will be both the best and fairest way of raising money for it. Full details of the auction are now available on the website via the front page, or will be available through Dave Garner on matchdays.

Sunday 18 July - First glimpse of new kit

At last week's Supporters Association meeting, Dave Bedford gave supporters a first look at the new kit to be produced by Adidas. While the kit shown was just a basic sample - the club badge and sponsorship logos were notably missing - it was clear that the new shirt will be pre-dominantly green, while a new away kit will remain predominantly in blue, albeit a slightly darker shade than the old kit. A photo was taken of the new home strip on Tuesday and is now online to give those unable to attend on Tuesday an idea of what to expect for next season - although it should only be taken as a guide due to the poor quality of the lighting.

Friday 16 July - Mike Rayner moves on

Despite the confirmation that he was staying at Claremont Road earlier this week, it was announced last night that physio Mike Rayner has been appointed to take over in the same position at Kingsmeadow having been made an offer he couldn't refuse. He had turned down an earlier offer from the Ryman League Division One club to make the move. We would like to thank Mike for all the incredible hard work he has put in for us over the past two seasons in getting the players fit and ready to play following their various injuries and wish him the best of luck as he continues what will undoubtedly be a successful career as a physiotherapist.

Tuesday 13 July - Supporters AGM report

Around 40 supporters attended the Supporters Association AGM this evening, along with chairman Ivor Arbiter, vice-chairman Dave Bedford and secretary Graham Etchell. The committee were re-elected unopposed consisting of Mike Hogan as chairman, Tony Wood as vice-chairman, Sandra Wood as secretary, Derek Furmedge as treasurer, Geraldine Clarke as assistant treasurer, John Rice as membership secretary, as well as Bernard Lawrence, Dave Garner, Paul Hutton, Stewart Liversidge and Ted Peck.

It was confirmed that the association donated 15,000 to the club last season, and move into the new season in an excellent financial position. Thanks were given to all those that had helped out in some capacity last season, even if it was just buying a burger on a match day.

Ivor Arbiter, Dave Bedford and Graham Etchell all spoke briefly and took questions. It was confirmed that physio Mike Rayner is staying with the club, which is a great bonus to the club following his hard work over the past two years. The new Adidas kit was shown to supporters, pictures of which will be online in the next few days. It should be available for sale by the start of the season.

Tony Choules and his assistant Gary Farrell joined the meeting towards the end and also took questions. They were both very honest and confirmed that many of last seasons squad had moved on, but that those who had stayed were young, enthusiastic and most importantly were Hendon players. They said that we are likely to go into the new season with a young side, and that it was very important that supporters got behind them 100% right from the first whistle. Patience would be required as the squad gels and as mentioned by Tony last week the target was to win the championship and start to move the club upwards again.

As clubs are now back in training for the new season, the rumour mill is back in operation regarding the whereabouts of players. As well as Dwayne Plummer joining Thurrock, Andy Cook has reportedly signed for Hemel Hempstead Town and Steve Forbes signed a contract last night to play for Billericay Town. Both Jon-Barrie Bates and Antony Howard are in the AFC Wimbledon squad to play at Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow, although neither have formally signed for them. There is no confirmed news on players joining the club yet, although a number of new faces are currently training. As soon as players put pen to paper, we will confirm the signings on the website and on the Greensline.

Wednesday 07 July - Choules talks up title hopes

Hendon manager Tony Choules wasted little time in setting lofty targets for his new team. Asked what his hopes for the new season were, Mr Choules said, "Let's go for the championship and promotion to the Conference. We'll set the target hit high."

The players started preseason training last night and the squad will have 10 days before the first preseason match. However a number of players are away on holiday at the moment.

Choules continued "It is normally the way with holidays, but when the players come back they will have to work very hard. I will rule with an iron fist. There are probably more preseason games than I would have liked but I will have enough time to be able to see what the players can do."
