Tuesday 30 November - First league win for Farrell

Hendon won their first league game under the leadership of Gary Farrell as they beat Windsor & Eton 2-1 at Claremont Road on a cold, frosty evenning. However, they had to come back from behind after Paul Holsgrove had given Windsor a 26th minute lead when he latched onto a loose ball following a good save from Dave King to score from the edge of the penalty area. The Greens hit back in the 48th minute when Windsor keeper Chuck Martini spilled the ball in front of goal, and Ross Pickett reacted quickest to slam the ball into the net. Ten minutes later Hendon took the lead when Mark Nicholls hit a shot from 20 yards which was deflected past Martini. Both sides looked for more goals in the remaining half hour, but it was Hendon who held on for the three points.

Our reward for beating Taunton on Saturday is a trip to Slough Town in the third round of the FA Trophy meaning that we will be on the road for the first four Saturdays of 2005. The game will take place on Saturday 15th January at Stag Meadow, the home of Windsor & Eton where Slough are currently groundsharing. The Rebels reached the third round with a 1-0 win over Chelmsford City on Saturday, but are back in FA Cup action this weekend as they entertain Yeading in the second round.

Monday 29 November - Under 16s progress in County Cup

The only youth team in action this weekend were the under 16's who beat Pinnacle 5-2 despite being a goal down at half time. Within two minutes of the restart Marcel Byfield equalised and soon afterwards Gomes and Byfield had put Hendon 3-1 in front. Byfield completed his hat-trick on the hour mark only for Pinnacle to pull a goal back. However it was Raj Ahmed who had the final word scoring the fifth goal for the young Dons. They will travel to Enfield Rangers in the third round on the 19th December.

On the same day the Under 15's will open their county cup campaign in the third round with a trip to Northwood or Edson after they were given a walkover in the second round after Hampton Harriers withdrew from the competition.

Next weekend all four teams are due to be in action. The under 18's are away to league leaders Turkish Community on Saturday afternoon, while on Sunday the under 16's travel to Brook House in the league cup, the under 15's travel to Headstone Manor B and the under 12's entertain Celtic A at Copthall Playing Fields in a game that will kick off at 10.30am.

Saturday 27 November - Hendon win convincingly in Somerset

Hendon came away from Taunton this evening with a convincing 3-0 win. After weathering the early storm from the home side, an attacking Hendon line up took control of the game. The opening goal came in the 29th minute when a right wing corner beat everyone in the area. Danny Butler crossed the ball back across the goal and René Street leaped high to head the ball home. The second goal came in the 67th minute when Ross Pickett drove the ball into the net from 20 yards, and the win was confirmed fifteen minutes later when a totally unmarked Pickett fired home a cross from Eugene Ofori. It was an excellent performance all round and gave the travelling support plenty to shout and sing about. The next round will be drawn on Monday, and takes place on Saturday 15th January 2005. Consequently our home game against Chelmsford City fixed for that day has been postponed. We can also confirm that this Tuesday's game against Windsor & Eton will definitely go ahead as Windsor lost 4-1 at Grays Athletic this afternoon.

Thursday 25 November - Reserves in much improved performance

The reserves put in a much improved perfomance last night and were unfortunate to lose 2-1 at Chesham United. Tom Woodcraft gave them the lead in the 1st minute, and they held onto the lead until the hour mark. The winning goal game fifteen minutes from time, and manager Eugene Spellman said that he was delighted with what was a terrific performance, and that the team deserved at least a point. Mention was made of Matthew Peart, one of the under 18 squad who made his reserve team debut with an assured performance.

Team : Siki Kambila, Gary Meakin, Martin Westcott, Warren Clarke, Gilbert Nuako, Daniel Edwards, Adilson Lopes, Roy Santos, Matthew Peart, Tom Woodcraft, Gary Thirkell. Subs : Jack Woodcraft, Junior Howell, Marcus Izycki

Tuesday 23 November - Hendon win in extra time

Hendon progressed into the quarter finals of the London Senior Cup with a 4-3 win in extra time against a spirited and hard working Croydon Athletic side. The Rams took the lead in the 19th minute when Matt Fowler converted a penalty, and shortly before half time Barry Stevens doubled the lead as the Hendon defence went missing. The Greens had a goal disallowed for handball by Mark Nicholls early in the second half, but in the 61st minute Nicholls redeemed himself with a lob from the edge of the area. Eight minutes later the scores were level as Nicholls scored again, but soon afterwards Stevens restored the lead for the South London side with the defence disappearing yet again. However, in the 82nd minute John Frendo scored with a shot that was driven across the keeper into the far corner of the net to take the game into extra time. The winning goal came in the 107th minute when Frendo showed good strength to hold off a defender to drive the ball into the net. Hendon will travel to Fisher Athletic or AFC Wimbledon in the next round.

Monday 22 November - Under 12s win again

Our under 12 team won their fifth match in succession yesterday morning as they beat Bessingby Park Rangers 5-2 at Copthall. Damilola Thomas scored a hat-trick with Tony Teegan and Ify Ijeoma also finding the back of the net. Mention must be made of Jake Paul who stepped in to play in goal following the absence of the regular keeper. It was not such good news for the under 16's who lost 3-2 to Spur Road. Marcel Byfield scored both goals, taking his tally for the season to 20 in just 8 games. The under 15's and under 18's were not in action this weekend.

Monday 22 November - Player news

As supporters will have noticed there have been a few new faces added to the squad over the past week or so. Joining from Hayes is midfielder Shayne Demetrious, who began his career at Chelsea. Shayne made his debut against Worthing last week. Rejoining the club is defender Gary Meakin, who was in our reserve squad last season and made one first team appearance in the London Senior Cup against Dulwich Hamlet. Gary spent the last few months of last season at Northwood, before moving to Brook House in the early part of this season.

Brian Fitzgerald began his career at Queens Park Rangers before settling at Northwood last season. He is a striker who has also appeared for Chesham United. The final arrival is midfielder Steve Brady, who was with the club in 1997 and 1998 making 24 first team appearances. Steve has stayed in the local scene including a period at Wingate & Finchley. As Gary Farrell freshens up the squad it is possible that there may be some more new faces and possibly some departures

Saturday 20 November - Poor performance costs Dons

Hendon put in another disappointing performance this afternoon as they lost 3-1 to Billericay Town. The Essex side took the lead in the 22nd minute when former Green Kieran Gallagher scored a good goal following some excellent build up play. Just six minutes later Neil Cousins doubled the lead when Billericay got a fortunate ricochet off the referee. However, Hendon were back in the game just two minutes later when Ross Pickett scored with a deft flick over the keeper. Billericay regained their two goal advantage six minutes into the second half when Cousins fired home after Gallagher broke down the Hendon left, and they were able to hold on comfortably for the win as the Greens failed to create much in the way of chances.

Sunday 14 November - Youth team round up

It was a very successful weekend all round for our four youth teams. The under 18's pulled off a great win over Southall Reserves in the second round Middlesex County League Cup. The result over the mens team was 2-1 thanks to a brace from Bradley Bubb. Their reward for winning is a home tie against Hanworth Villa on Saturday 22nd January 2005. Congratulations go out to Mark Crawford and his team on a superb result.

Earlier today all three Sunday youth sides won their respective games. The under 16's ran out 4-3 winners over Spur Road with Marcel Byfield hitting another hat-trick, the under 15's beat Larkspur Rovers B 8-3, with Matthew Hornblow finding the net four times, while the under 12's continued their good form with an 8-1 demolition of Kentish Town. Damilola Thomas led the way with a brace of goals. Full reports can be found on the relevant team pages as usual.

Saturday 13 November - Ten man Greens lose

Hendon saw red for the ninth time this season as they lost 1-0 to Worthing in a disappointing game. The dismissal came in the 38th minute when Mark Burgess was sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity when he pulled back Ronnie Green when he only had Dave King to beat. Worthing won the game in the 56th minute when Green broke clear of the Hendon defence as the Rebels counter attacked, and rounded King to score clinically. The Greens had plenty of possession throughout the game, and did have the ball in the net once, only for the assistant referee to correctly rule that Wayne Carter was offside as he got the final touch on the ball. Apart from that, Hendon lacked the cutting edge that was needed to find a way past their visitors.

Saturday 06 November - Dons lose after Dons' second half rout

Hendon exacted a sweet victory over last seasons' backroom staff with a 3-0 win at home to Ryman League newboys AFC Wimbledon. The Greens' best gate for a number of years, 1184, saw a fairly even first half, the away side nearly taking first blood when hitting the woodwork and Hendon contriving to put three good chances over Naisbett's goal.

However, it only took three minutes in the second half for the goal to come, Nicholls floating the ball right across the six yard box for Ofori to head home at the far post. Better was to come for the home side, as just three minutes later Nicholls took possession of the ball around 35 yards from goal, and after cutting inside drilled the ball past Naisbett from just outside the area. With the Surrey team still looking to equalise, but looking suitably unsettled, Hendon sat back a little more, but still looked dangerous coming forward as proved in the 83rd minute. Pickett was the provider this time as he fed the ball past the defenders on the 16 yard line for Nicholls to run through and score his second and seal victory for the Greens.
