Monday 28 February - Youth team round up

It was a bit of a mixed weekend for the youth teams, with the under 18's winning 2-1 against Bridge Rovers thanks to goals from Stephan Chambers and Narcisse Nono and the under 12's drawing 2-2 against promotion rivals FC Roundwood, Damilola Thomas scoring both goals. Unfortunately it was bad news for the under 15's who were soundly thrashed 14-0 by Kensington Dragon.

Saturday 26 February - Hendon win game of two halves

It's one of the footballing cliches most often used, but today was a real game of two halves. Hendon were very poor in the first half, and Folkestone deservedly took the lead in the 35th minute when Simon Glover finished off a good move. The fact the scoreline was only 1-0 at half time was largely down to Dave King who made a number of good saves and interceptions. As poor as the Greens were in the first half they were good in the second and within five minutes of the restart they had equalised through John Frendo. In the 53rd minute the Greens took the lead when Steve McGrath celebrated his debut by heading home after great work from René Street to set him up. Hendon battled hard to keep their lead in the second half, and their job was made easier two minutes from time when James Everitt was sent off for a second caution. The Greens did manage to hold on reasonably comfortably, and went home happy with all three points.

Monday 21 February - Youth team round up

There were just two youth teams in action this weekend. The under 12s ran out 4-0 winners at Headstone Manor B thanks to goals from Dean Rosenthal, Michael Pringle, Julian Mika and Damilola Thomas. Man of the match was Jahrell Best who was superb in midfield. Meanwhile first half goals from Mark Blooman, Matthew Hornblow and Salah Abuukar weren't enough for the under 15s as they lost 4-3 to Pinner Albion who hit a four goal salvo in the second half. The under 16s had their game postponed after two of the squad were called up for Middlesex representative duties. Ashley Trodden and Marcel Byfield being the two concerned. The under 18s are due to be in action on Wednesday evening as they entertain Young Stars at Claremont Road in a 7.45pm kick off.

Saturday 19 February - Frendo free kick worth three points

A 71st minute John Frendo free kick was enough to earn Hendon all three points as they won 1-0 at Windsor & Eton this afternoon. It was a scrappy game on a difficult pitch and neither side created a huge amount in the way of clear cut chances. The Hendon goal came when Eugene Ofori was brought down just outside the penalty area by Dave Tilbury, and Frendo stepped up and curled the free kick just inside the near post with the Windsor keeper Chuck Martini nothing more than a spectator. The result has moved Hendon some five places up the table into 13th place.

Wednesday 16 February - Reserves suffer another defeat

Despite fielding an experienced line up, the reserves slipped to a comprehensive 5-1 defeat at the hands of a quick Windsor & Eton side. The visitors were 3-0 ahead within fifteen minutes, and moved four goals ahead in the 57th minute. Ross Pickett pulled a goal back five minutes later, but with around fifteen minutes to go, Windsor scored their fifth goal to complete the scoring.

Team : Andy Vincent, Corey Campbell, Steve McGrath, Chris Sparks, Chris Childs, Andy Sherry, Richard McDonagh, Anthony Clark, Rob Courtnage, Joe Nartey, Ross Pickett. Used subs : Chad Edwards, Tom Woodcraft, Kevin Bissah. Unused subs : Jaz Rose, Bradley Bubb.

Tuesday 15 February - Greens in rare draw

Hendon had their second league draw of the season this evening as they drew 0-0 against Chelmsford City. Both teams worked hard throughout the game, particularly defensively, and as a result there were only a few clear cut chances. Eugene Ofori hit a speculative lob midway through the first half which Paul Nicholls managed to claim in the Chelmsford goal, while Dave King was forced into two or three excellent saves during the second half. It was a great team performance for the Greens, and the clean sheet, the first since New Years Day, will help to boost the confidence in the squad ahead of the forthcoming games.

Tuesday 15 February - Sargent moves on

Dave Sargent left the club this afternoon and has returned to Northwood. Speaking before tonights game manager Gary McCann said "We are very sorry to see Dave go as we were very keen for him to stay. Tuesday 15 February - First team in action again tonight

The first team are back in action tonight in what is likely to be the last midweek home game of the season as they entertain Chelmsford City in a game that will kick off at 7.45pm. The game is notable because it will see the return of Hendon legend Simon Clarke for the first time since he left the club having made 351 appearances over seven seasons. The game earlier in the season ended in a 1-0 win for the Greens, who were rather relieved to leave with three points after their goal led a charmed life with Dave King making a number of excellent saves to keep a clean sheet. Chelmsford's form has improved somewhat over the past couple of months and they have risen rapidly up the table, a rise that the Greens will be aiming to halt this evening. We look forward to seeing as many supporters at the game as possible this evening.

On Sunday it was bad news as the under 16's lost 6-3 to Ealing Shamrock, and the under 15's lost 10-1 to Forest United. Saturday 12 February - Sargent double earns Greens win

Gary McCann's reign as Hendon manager started well this afternoon as the Greens ended their barren run of results with a 2-1 victory over a well organised and hardworking Cheshunt side, for whom Ross White shone in midfield. The game started perfectly for Hendon when they took the lead in the 2nd minute, Dave Sargent heading home across from John Frendo having been left unmarked at the far post. Cheshunt had the bulk of possession in the first half, and were rewarded in the 39th minute when a freekick from White squirmed through the grasp of Dave King and just crossed the line before King could scramble it back. Hendon came out in the second half in determined style, and had a great chance to take the lead when a Sargent drive was tipped onto the post by Michael Kalli. However, a minute into stoppage time, Sargent had the final word when he received a long pass over the top by Jason O'Connor, took a touch and drove it across Kalli into the far corner of the net.

Friday 11 February - First team back in action tomorrow

Following their twelve day break, the first team are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they entertain Cheshunt. It is a crucial game for the Greens, not only because it is Gary McCann's first game in charge, but also because three points are very important to kick start the season and start moving back out of the relegation zone. This is where the supporters come in, not only to welcome Gary McCann and Gary Anderson back to the club as well as welcoming Andy Pape, but to get behind the team for 90 minutes and hopefully cheer the team on to three points. We look forward to seeing as many supporters as possible at Claremont Road for the game, which will kick off at 3.00pm.

Wednesday 09 February - First win for reserves

The reserves picked up their first win of the season at Aylesbury United this evening, helped by the fact that the strongest available first team side was fielded and led by the new management team of Gary McCann and Andy Pape. The final score was 4-0, and it was Eugene Ofori who opened the scoring after 54 seconds finishing off a fine move involving Dave Hunt and Dave Sargent. John Frendo hit a fine lob in the 10th minute to double the lead, and on the half hour mark Gary Meakin headed home a Sargent cross. The fourth goal was the best of the lot, coming in the 64th minute when James Burgess scored with a screaming drive from 25 yards. Dave King had just the one save to make and the result means the squad go into Saturday's crucial league game against Cheshunt with a suitable confidence boost. Both Richard McDonagh and Ross Pickett were unavailable through injury.

Team : Dave King, Gary Meakin, Dave Sargent, Jason O'Connor, René Street, Dean Coppard (James Parker 48), Danny Julienne (Andy Sherry 64), Dave Hunt, Eugene Ofori (Joe Nartey 70), James Burgess. Unused subs : Jazz Rose, Anthony Clarke

Gary, who worked for Barnet during their Football League days, spent a season at Hendon when Frank Murphy was manager and, during that time, oversaw Gary McCann's rehabilitation from the knee surgery he underwent.
