Saturday 31 January - Magpies too good for poor Greens

Hendon saw the good work of last weekend undone as Gary McCann's squad fell 2-0 at Peacehaven and Telscombe. Jamie Brotherton opened the scoring in the 36th minute, while the result was put beyond doubt six minutes from time by Tom Burton.

The first team remain 5th in the league, but fell behind pacesetters Maidstone United, Margate and Dulwich Hamlet as the top three all earned three points in their respective fixtures.

Monday 26 January - New date for Hampton cup tie

Our league cup tie against Hampton & Richmond Borough will now be played on Tuesday 3rd February, kick off 7:45pm.

The reason for opting for the Tuesday night is to give the groundsman as much chance as possible to work on the pitch following Harrow's home game this weekend.

Due to the weather overnight, the groundsman had been unable to do any work on the pitch following our game against Kingstonian, and those at the game will know what state the pitch was in at full time.

Sunday 25 January - Gary delighted with Kingstonian win

Gary McCann was delighted with the win over Kingstonian and said, "It was a performance that had a little bit of everything. We started slowly, but that was no surprise given that we had not played a competitive game for 14 days and Kingstonian came in on the back of four straight wins.

"But once we got into the game, we were excellent. Despite the conditions our passing was very good and we could have scored a few more goals.

"In the second half, apart from the Chris Seeby incident, our discipline was outstanding. We defended in numbers and did what we set out to do. Elliott Brathwaite, Charlie Goode and Casey Maclaren were absolutely magnificent in defence and Ben McNamara's handling was impeccable.

"We had to sit back when we were down to 10 men, but we did what we had to and, for all of their territory and possession, Kingstonian really didn't create many chances.

"It was a really good day for us, with the teams above us - Dulwich and Maidstone - losing. After losing at Enfield, it was imperative to get back to winning ways and this was a difficult game. If it had gone the other way we would have been looking over our shoulders and been worrying about dropping out of the playoffs."

Saturday 24 January - First half triple downs K's

Hendon ran out 3-1 winners today against visitors Kingstonian, with three goals early in the first half putting the result beyond much doubt by the time a quarter of the game had passed.

Two goals inside the first sixteen minutes put the Greens in pole position thanks to Kesie Ibe and Casey McLaren, before Aaron Morgan added a third in a rare league start. Kingstonian managed a late consolation ten minutes before the end of the game through ex-Hendon defender Sam Page, but not before Chris Seeby saw red for violent conduct.

Today's win leaves the club 4th in the league, closing on the top three, with Margate having their match postponed, while both Dulwich and Maidstone lost.

Saturday 24 January - Game On!

We are pleased to be able to confirm that the pitch passed it's morning inspection and with no further rain expected today we are confident that today's game will go ahead.

Kingstonian have recently gone into a very good patch of away form, so after several weeks without a competitive game this will prove a stern test for Gary McCann's squad.

Tuesday 20 January - New website

As any regular visitor cannot have failed to notice, as of this evening we have a new design to the website. We've been working hard in recent months to pull together the new design for all our content and although there are still some tweaks needed here and there, we've finally got it into a state where we believe it's ready to go live.

All the previous content is still available via the menu above, although it may not be in the same place you're used to seeing it. In particular, rather than having separate links on the menu for our various statistics and archives, you can find them all under a single option under First Team > Archives.

We believe this new design should be more readable and usable on a range of devices, as we're aware that more and more of our users are coming to us on mobile phones and tablets, although we've not been able to test against a wide range of technology, so we also need your help!

If you see something on the website that doesn't look quite right then please let us know via the thread at the top of our forum. We're keen to get this looking as good as we can for as many people as possible, so we're waiting to hear from you!

Finally, we're aware that on occasion of late the website has been throwing up a number of error messages. We apologise, and this unfortunately will continue for a short while longer. While the design is fresh and new, the code underneath is showing it's age and needs some TLC. Now we've got this piece of work mostly out of the way, we're ready to give the rest of the website the attention it needs and get to the bottom of the issues. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

Sunday 18 January - Gary pleased with Edgware workout

Gary McCann was pleased with the workout the squad got against Edgware Town yesterday afternoon.

He said, "It was a good workout for us. It got minutes into the squad and this is very important at this time of the season.

"I enjoyed the surface - I think it is better than Maidstone's – and the boys are loving it too. All in all, it was a good exercise for us.

"The final score was a true reflection of the game. We could probably have added to our total, but I was pleased with what we did.

"I didn't really want Charlie Goode and Elliott Brathwaite to go the whole way, but we didn"t have the replacements at the back, especially after Sam Flegg dropped out with flu. As they were not under great pressure for large parts of the game, it wasn't so much of an issue.

"The good news is that almost all of the injured players are very close to returning to fitness and being back in training."

Wednesday 14 January - Defeat in 3G training match

Thanks to the 3G pitch at Silver Jubilee Park yesterday, Gary McCann was able to pitch his side against Hemel Hempstead Town of the Vanarama Conference South last night in a hastily arranged training match. Both sides played without a number of regulars, taking advantage of the occasion to provide match practice to a number of their squads.

Hemel were able to take advantage of poor defending to go into half time 2-0 ahead, while a more even second half saw 2 more from the visitors matched by a penalty from Sam Murphy and another goal from Leon Smith.

Full details will appear on the Fixtures page soon.

Monday 12 January - Gary reflects on another Enfield defeat

Gary McCann struggled to explain what he had seen at Enfield Town on Saturday.

He said, "Six defeats out of six is extraordinary. It is freaky that we have lost six times to Enfield Town in the League. I thought we had turned the corner when we won here last month". (Hendon have never lost to the Towners in cup competitions).

"Today, however, we never got going. I must admit I though that we might take a while to get into the game after nine days without a match. We did train twice last weeks, but it is not the same as playing.

"We were lacking everywhere today, and there were only a couple of players who came out of the game with any credit. The way we played meant there was always going to be disappointment on our part, and I told the players this after the game. I was quite calm with them in the dressing room, and there was no shouting."

Monday 12 January - Match postponed at 7.10pm

Unfortunately due to the continued rain this evening, tonight's match was postponed by the match referee at 7:10pm.

We apologise to anyone who had a fruitless journey this evening. With the pitch declared playable at 3pm, we had no option but to await the arrival of the match referee to make a final inspection.

To add to the problems, the match officials were caught up in bad traffic on their way to the game and didn't arrive at Earlsmead until 7.00pm, and in the meantime the rainfall had made the pitch unplayable.

A new date for the game will be announced in due course.

Monday 12 January - Met Police game on

The pitch inspection result a couple of hours ago was a positive one, and at the time of writing the game is going ahead as planned.

Obviously, with rain still falling, there is a chance that conditions could deteriorate, but any decision now will be made by the match referee.

Should the situation change, we will update as soon as possible through the usual channels.

Friday 02 January - Gary satisfied with New Year point

Gary McCann was satisfied with a point from the New Years Day game against Harrow Borough.

He said: "I thought we were good value for the point. If we had gone ahead, I think we would have won the game.

"I felt that we were always chasing the game, even when we were level. It was a very difficult surface and we tried to set the pace.

"I think Harrow are happier with the draw than we are. Credit to them for the way that they set themselves up and attacked us on the break.

"But the resilience of my team in coming back twice was very pleasing. It has been a very tough run of the games in the past few weeks, with some very long trips. If we can get a win on Saturday, I will be delighted with seven points from the three games in the week after Christmas."

Meanwhile, Harrow Borough manager Dave Anderson said, "I am delighted with a point today. We were playing against a team in the top three in the table and to get a draw is very good for us."

Thursday 01 January - Steve Rogers resigns

We are sorry to have to announce the resignation of Steve Rogers as Hendon FC Match Secretary and Website Editor. His resignation takes effect from today.

Steve is a well known face around the club and has been an invaluable volunteer for the last 18 years since he first started out selling programmes. Since then, Steve has undertaken a number of official and unofficial roles within the club, including turnstile operator, members' gate operator, matchday organiser, website editor, fixture secretary, as well as occasional scouting trips. He also had spells on the board of the Supporters' Trust and the committee of the Supporters' Association.

A few weeks ago Steve told us of his desire to step away from his existing roles at the club and in the meantime he's been working with Graham Etchell and Phil Rogers to

handover his current club roles with effect from today. As such, we would ask that from today anyone with any queries for the Match Secretary speak to Graham in future, while all website queries now should go to Phil Rogers, who will be picking up day-to-day updates.

We are also aware that Steve has over the years often acted as a general point of contact for the club and we would also ask that in future supporters make their queries through one of the other club officers, via the Club's email address, or the club's Twitter account, both of which are regularly monitored. A list of the current club officials can always be found in the matchday programme and on the Club Information page on the website.

We'd like to thank Steve for all his work for the club over the years and we hope that he enjoys his break from club activities. We'd also like to take the opportunity to thank all our other volunteers, both past and present and remind supporters that we're always looking for new faces to help with day-to-day and matchday tasks. If you do think you might have some time to help out then please do get in touch with either Simon Lawrence or Graham Etchell.
