Hendon and Walton & Hersham made light of the blustery conditions to contest a thoroughly absorbing 1-1 draw at Silver Jubilee Park this afternoon.
The Greens had the better of the opening half an hour with Kai Brosnan well denied by Tyla Dickinson, and Billy Leonard firing over the bar,. Walton squandered a golden opportunity to go into the break ahead when Stan Flaherty's penalty kick was saved by Dylan Berry after the Swans winger opted to go down the middle.
Walton ended the first half on top and began the second half in the same vein as Johl Powell coolly stroked home the opener six minutes into the second period.
Both goalkeepers made fine saves as Hendon pushed for the leveller and Walton sought to make the game safe. As the contest entered stoppage time, Mert Apat was dragged back as he motioned to shoot on goal and Joe White confidently finished from the spot with his 10th goal of the campaign.
Billy Leonard and Niko Muir both narrowly missed the target as the Greens looked for a late winner, but a share of the spoils was about right on the balance of play.
