Hendon's mens and women's team are in action this weekend, with the men taking on Basingstoke Town at Silver Jubilee Park on Saturday in a Southern League Premier Division South fixture, and the women in a Silver Jubilee Park derby against Edgware & Kingsbury, albeit at Queens School, Bushey.
The men are looking to build on four points from their last two games after two thrillers in the past week against Tiverton Town and Hanwell Town. Basingstoke, newly promoted from the Isthmian League South Central were last opponents of ours in 2018/19, our debut Southern League season.
After losing 2-1 in our final visit to The Camrose, a Charlie Smith goal sealed a 1-0 win for Hendon in the return, a vital result that helped Hendon to eventual survival and Basingstoke the unlucky side to drop out of the division.
Since then, Basingstoke have regrouped at their new Winklebury base, and currently sit 6th in the table with 17 points from their 10 matches so far. They lost 2-1 to Winchester in a Hampshire derby in midweek, their first league defeat since mid-August.
Meanwhile, the women come off the back of a walkover win last week against Enfield Town Thirds to get themselves off the mark after losing their debut match 6-5 to Tower Hamlet Reserves.
This Sunday they make the trip up to Queens School in Bushey to take on Edgware & Kingsbury, who have had mixed results so far this season.
After beatinig Tower Hamlet Reserves 8-0 in their opener, they have lost 7-0 to East Finchley and 9-1 to Regents Park, the top two in the division. If you'd like to cheer on Shelley and her team, admission at Queens School is free. There is plenty of parking on site on both sides of the road, but there is a small charge. Please make sure you pay at the machines or via the Pay By Phone app.
