Hendon FC's first team got their revenge on the Supporters side for last season's defeat with a 8-5 victory this evening at Vale Farm. A tight first half saw the first team spend much of the period on the attack, but it was the supporters side, playing in their home strip of Green, who opened the scoring, Mark Burgess beating the 'keeper from just outside the box.
Casey Maclaren equalised shortly after with a thumping header which went in off the crossbar, before Wesley Browne restored the Supporters' lead with a confidently taken penalty following handball in the area.
James Parker equalised again early in the second-half when a cross-cum-shot from the right side of the box crept in before James Burgess gave the first-team the lead with a cross from wide out on the left wing that drifted over the 'keeper's head and dropped inside the far post.
Nick McMullen equalised with a shot that James Bent will have nightmares over before the first team ran away, with Gary McCann's innovative tactic of playing seven up front finally taking it's toll on the Supporters as the first team scored five goals in quick succession. Jimmy Maclaren netted first in his debut, while Joe-Oliver McCann, who had played on the Supporters Team last season, put the first team 5-3 ahead with Mark Burgess failing to connect with an attempted goal-line clearance.
Tommy Hyatt was next, with his second goal for the first team - having scored in last season's fixture, before Ashley Lawrence pulled one back for the Supporters' side. However, the first team quickly put the game beyond doubt, with Sid McCann confidently beating Bryan Roberts and Molly Hyatt becoming the first girl in history to score for the first team on her own debut.
There was still time for a consolation as Michelle Vincent was played through and beat James Bent to reduce the arrears to 8-5. From the restart Peter Dean shot from the halfway line - a trick Freddie Hyatt had been trying for some time - but although the ball comfortably cleared the 'keeper and nestled in the back of the net the final whistle went while the ball was passing the 18 yard line.
