A late goal went in Hendon's favour yesterday afternoon in South Wales as Dave Diedhiou's goal secured a crucial three points at Merthyr Town.
The centre half had given Hendon the lead early on with a trademark header only for Merthyr to reply immediately through a well-taken Riccardo Rees finish. Merthyr peppered the Hendon goal with Frazer Thomas hitting the crossbar with a fine effort, but the scores were level at the break.
The peppering of Hendon's goal continued after the break, but the Greens remained stoic at the back and carried a threat on the break. Leo Donnellan cracked the crossbar with a sensational dipping strike from 30 yards, before Diedhiou reacted quickest after Dan Matsuzaka's header from a free kick hit the post to slide home the winner minutes from time.
The three points opens up a three point gap between Hendon and 19th placed Harrow Borough with eight games remaining.
