A last minute penalty save from Berkley Laurencin ensured that the Greens beat Ashford Town (Middlesex) 2-1 this afternoon at a sunny Vale Farm.
Hendon took the lead in the 6th minute courtesy of Peter Dean, before Casey Maclaren doubled the lead just after the half hour mark. Ashford made a change in formation at half-time and had the better of the exchanges in the second half, and scored thanks to an own goal on the hour.
However, they didn't help themselves by having two men sent off, firstly Russell Canderton in the 74th minute for a second caution, and then Brian Haule rather controversially two minutes later. Ashford did have a last chance with the late penalty, but Laurencin was able to become a hero for the Greens.
