Fred Burbidge was the Hendon hero as the Greens picked up their first win of 2022 with a series of fine saves during a thoroughly entertaining affair at Silver Jubilee Park this afternoon.
Joe White gave the Greens the lead in the 8th minutes before Poole struck back strongly forcing a number of saves from Burbidge, who suffered a painful finger injury during the warm-up. Liam Brooks doubled the lead shortly before the break with an impudent back-heel to give the Greens a two-goal cushion at half-time.
Poole struck back after the break with two goals in a minute from Josh Carmichael, the first an superbly executed free-kick and the second another strike from distance that for once, Burbidge was unable to repel. At that stage there looked like only one winner as Poole created a string of chances, only for Burbidge to stand tall.
The winner came twelve minutes from time when the ball fell nicely for Joe White to fire home and the Greens held on through the better part of 10 minutes stoppage time, added on for an injury to Quba Gordon, to seal the three points.
