A hard-working performance by Hendon's Under-18s bore fruit this evening at the Grass Roots Stadium as they held firm under heavy pressure to beat Tring Athletic 2-1 in the FA Youth Cup.
After a goalless first half in which the hosts had the better of what few chances there were the game sparked into life midway through the second period when the Greens were awarded a penalty.
Mehdi stepped up to calmly slot the ball home and make it 1-0. Straight afterwards the Hendon goalkeeper made an astonishing save to preserve the advantage before Marlon did extremely well to hold his nerve and fire a second goal into the roof of the net.
A stoppage time penalty gave the home side hope but Hendon held out to record a competitive win at the first attempt.
We will now travel to Ashford Town (Middx) in the next round with the game due to take place sometime in two weeks time.
