Two goals each from Shaun Lucien and a trialist helped Hendon to a 7-1 win this evening at Silver Jubilee Park against co-tenants Edgware Town to secure the inaugural Jeffrey Over Memorial Cup.
After an even opening quarter of an hour a slick pass from Tommy Brewer split the Edgware defence to send Liam Brooks scampering through on goal. He rounded the keeper before sliding the ball into the empty net.
The lead was extended on the half-hour mark as Jayden Clarke sprung the offside trap to slot the ball into the bottom corner, a goal which opened the floodgates in the final fifteen minutes of the half.
Shaun Lucien cut in off the left flank to fire into the top corner to make it 3-0 before extending the lead with a cheeky dinked penalty. One of the trialists then made it five on the stroke of half-time.
Another trialist extended the lead shortly after half-time with a cool first-time finish after more good work from Clarke before Hadi Issa showed excellent footwork to defy a couple of challenges and dink an impudent finish home to reduce the arrears.
The trialist that scored the fifth goal added a late flourish to the scoreline with a neatly taken strike to complete the scoring in front of a healthy crowd that showed their appreciation for Jeffrey's life both before and after the game.
