This evening we make the journey to Berkhamsted in the latest of our series of pre-season friendly matches at Broadwater.

The Comrades had an outstanding 2019/20 campaign and were leading the Southern League Division 1 Central in March when the season was brought to a conclusion under the stewardship of former Hendon centre-half Steve Bateman and Lee Bircham.

Former Greens Danny Murphy, Darren Locke and Lewis Toomey provided part of the spine of that side, Toomey finishing the campaign with 31 goals from just 34 matches.

In the summer Bircham left the club with Bateman to take the reins at National League South neighbours Hemel Hempstead Town and has been replaced by Chris Devane, who was previously boss at Biggleswade United.

We have never met Berkhamsted in a competitive game, the Comrades being formed in 2009 following the demise of Berkhamsted Town, who, back in 1926 were the first ever visitors to Claremont Road which Hampstead Town won 4-3 in the FA Cup.

We did visit Berkhamsted last pre-season though and won 3-2 thanks to goals from Dan Williams, Kameron English and Luca Valentine.

Once again, we reluctantly ask supporters not to travel to Berkhamsted this evening as the game will be played behind closed doors, however we will aim to provide updates as usual throughout the evening.
