WIth less than 24-hours to go until the Hendon v Hendon Legends virtual match that kicks off tomorrow afternoon, the Legends have appointed their manager for the afternoon.
In the virtual dugout pitting his wits against virtual Lee Allinson will be none other than Gary McCann.
Gary needs no introduction to Hendon's supporters having spent more than 13 years in the real dugout at Claremont Road, Vale Farm, Earlsmead and of course, Silver Jubilee Park, making him by far and away the longest serving manager in the club's history.
Already named by supporters as one of the 2 goalkeepers, Gary achieved success on the field not only keeping the club at Step 3 during the homeless nomadic years on a shoestring budget but also contributed memorable FA Cup runs to the 1st round on two occasions, running both Chelmsford City and Aldershot Town extremely close.
Additionally he suffered heartbreak twice in the Isthmian League play-offs, leading teams to the final twice only to lose to big-spending Margate in 2015 and then to Dulwich on penalties in 2018. Aside from that, Gary oversaw triumphs in 3 London Senior Cups, a Middlesex Senior Cup and Isthmian League Cup finals.
Big thanks to Gary for agreeing to allow himself to be part of the afternoon, it remains to be seen whether McCann the virtual manager trusts McCann the virtual goalkeeper with the number 1 shirt.
