17-year old goalkeeper Dante Baptiste was the Hendon hero this evening saving four penalties in a penalty shoot-out to seal Hendon's progression in the CSS Southern League Cup against Hayes & Yeading United.
Ogo Obi scored his third goal of the season against Hendon with a superb curled effort, a strike that was added to shortly afterwards by Toby Little when he turned an Obi cross beyond Baptiste.
The Greens came out with renewed vigour after the break, but found the Hayes defence and goalkeeper Andrew McCorkell in fine form. Luke Tingey headed home a Shaun Lucien corner to reduce the arrears and Corey Panter fired home a magnificent low 30-yard strike to take the game to penalties.
Both goalkeepers showed their prowess to force sudden death, McCorkell saving two and Howard Hall hitting the bar. After Tom Hamblin scored Hendon's 10th penalty to make it 7-6 Baptiste plunged to his right to save his fourth and take the Greens into the next round.
