Hendon picked up a crucial 3 points in their fight against the drop by beating fellow strugglers Basingstoke Town this afternoon at Silver Jubilee Park by the only goal.
In a game high on effort but low on quality, it was a strike from Charlie Smith just past the half-hour mark that made the difference, his first goal for the club proving the winner.
Both sides created opportunities without really working the opposition goalkeeper until late on when Andrew McCorkell made an excellent stop to preserve Hendon's lead. The victory, Hendon's first at home since December 1st, lifts them above their opponents and up to 14th place, albeit just 3 points above the relegation zone.
