The first team were knocked out of the CSS League Challenge Cup this evening, going down to a 1-0 defeat to Metropolitan Police.
Both sides made numerous changes to their line ups, and whilst the Greens put in a good performance, they were left rueing their inability to take their chances. In a five minute period early in the second half Mathias Bakare hit the post, Gianni Crichlow hit the bar with Tyriq Hunte firing the rebound at the keeper, and Cole Brown had a goal disallowed for offside. Within 10 minutes the home side had found the net with a shot from John Gilbert finding the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
Despite defeat, there were positives to take from the game. Young keeper Daniel Purdue made two or three excellent saves, and appeared to be unsighted for the goal, whilst debutants Mathias Bakare, Joao Lima and Sean Bonnett-Johnson all acquitted themselves well, together with the three substitutes from the under 23s, Ben Gray, Mickey White and William Murphy.
