The first time we met Taunton Town was at Loftus Road, the home of Queens Park Rangers, in an FA Trophy tie that had been put back a day and moved from Claremont Road due to the wintry weather. We ran out 5-1 winners. The only other time we've met competitively was also in the FA Trophy in Somerset in 2004 when we won 3-0.
The Peacocks were formed as Taunton FC in 1947, joining the Somerset Senior League, before joining the Western League in 1953. In the same year they moved into their current home at Wordsworth Drive, which they leased from the local council initially before purchasing it in the 1970s. Apart from a short spell in the late 70s in the Southern League, Taunton have spent most of their life in the Western League, winning it on six occasions in 1969, 1990, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2001. They also won the FA Vase in 2001, beating Berkhamsted Town 2-1. They had previously reached the final in 1994, losing to Diss Town in extra time.
This will be their first season at Step 3 after they won the Southern League Division One West championship last season.
