Our next opponents in our daily feature are Poole Town, a club we haven't met for nearly 70 years. Both our meetings came in the late 1940's in the FA Amateur Cup, with us winning on both occasions.
They were formed in 1890 when Poole Hornets and Poole Rovers merged, and they joined the Dorset League in 1896 and then the Hampshire League in 1903 and the Western League in 1923. Apart from a couple of years in the Southern League, they remained in the Western League until 1957 when, after winning the championship, they moved to the Southern League, flitting between the divisions until 1995/96 when they had a disasterous season, losing 39 consecutive league matches, and picking up just one point in their 42 league games. They dropped back to the Hampshire League Division One, since when they have worked their way back up the leagues, including three consecutive Wessex League Championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
They have just spent two seasons in National League South, but were relegated at the end of last season.
