One of our more familiar opponents this season will be Metropolitan Police, who have been regular league opponents for the past nine years. Like ourselves, they start the new season with a new manager, Gavin McPherson taking over from the long serving Jim Cooper who resigned following the transfer to the Southern League.
The club was formed in 1919, and largely played friendlies for the first nine years of their life before joining the Spartan League, winning the championship in 1930, 1937, 1938, 1947, 1954 and 1955. They transferred to the Metropolitan League in 1960, and when that league folded in 1971 they moved to the Southern League Division One South. They transferred to the Isthmian League in 1977, starting out in Division Two. They bounced around the lower divisions of the Isthmian League until 2009 when they won promotion to the Premier Division.
They have played at Imber Court since they were established, the first set of floodlights were installed in 1971 and the ground was enclosed in 1973.
