Having looked at a couple of new opponents over the past couple of days, today we look at very familiar opponents in Harrow Borough - our former landlords, and regular league opponents for nearly 40 years.
They were formed in 1933 as Roxonian FC, starting out in local football before moving into Earlsmead in 1934 and joining the Spartan League. They renamed as Harrow Town in 1939, and were promoted to the Delphian League in 1958. That league disbanded in 1964 and they transferred to the Athenian League, during which time they changed their name to Harrow Borough. They were elected to the Isthmian League in 1975, gaining promotion to the Premier Division in 1979 where they remained until they joined us in being transferred to the Southern League this summer.
In 1983 they reached the semi-final of the FA Trophy where they were beaten by Telford United, and the following season they won the Premier Division by 17 points, as well as reaching the FA Cup Second Round, losing to Newport County. They turned down promotion to the Conference as they wanted to ensure the long term security of the club.
We will of course always be grateful to everyone at Harrow for hosting us at Earlsmead for three years, making us feel very welcome and looking after us superbly during that time.
