The third of our new opponents this season are Hampshire side Gosport Borough.
The Boro' were formed in 1944 as Gosport Borough Athletic Club in an initiative to bring back organised sport, including football, to the town of Gosport after a break of several years. They joined the Hampshire League in their second season, winning Division One at their first attempt. They were renamed Gosport Borough in 1966 and joined the Southern League in 1978 after two successive Hampshire League titles. They flitted between the Premier Division and the Southern Division until they were relegated to the Wessex League in 1992.
They returned to the Southern League in 2008 after winning the Wessex League, and made it back to the Premier Division in 2012, beating Poole Town in the play-off final. The following season they were promoted again, to Conference South, beating Hemel Hempstead Town on penalties in the play-off final. Unfortunately, financial problems struck, and they were relegated in 2017, and only narrowly avoided relegation again last season.
They were runners-up in the FA Trophy in 2013/14 - losing 4-0 to Cambridge United, and their best season in the FA Cup saw them defeated 6-3 by Colchester United in the first round in 2014/15.
