Over the next three weeks, we'll be looking briefly at each of our 21 league opponents in the coming season. Working through them in alphabetical order, the first team is Basingstoke Town.
It's over 15 years since we last met The Dragons, but we did meet regularly in the 1990s and early 2000s.
They were formed in 1896 by a merger of Aldworth United and Basingstoke Albion and joined the Hampshire League in 1901, where they remained until joining the Southern League in 1971, before a transfer to the Isthmian League in 1987. They were founder members of Conference South, being the team that gained the spot created when we decided not to take up our place in the then new league.
