Niko Muir scored his third hat-trick of the season as the first team ran out 3-0 winners at Harlow Town to take his personal tally to 29 goals for the campaign.
With Folkestone, who also won, the only other team in the top six in action this afternoon due to postponements, the victory made the spot in the play-offs more secure for the time being as the Greens remained in third place, nine points behind the leading pair, and five points clear of sixth placed Leiston, safe in the knowledge that if teams win their games in hand they can't be overtaken.
The first half was a goalless affair, with Kezie Ibe being kept quiet by the ever strong Hendon back line, whilst at the other end, chances were created but not taken.
However, the opening goal came in the 51st minute after Ashley Nathaniel-George was fouled in the box, and Muir stepped up to score the spot kick. Just three minutes later Muir doubled the lead with a fine shot on the turn. The final goal came in the 89th minute when a defensive mix-up allowed Muir to slide the ball into the net to complete his hat-trick.
The win was soured slightly by the late sending-off of Casey Maclaren, but all the focus will be on Muir's exploits in front of goal as we move into 2018.
