Gary McCann could not hide his disappointment after Tonbridge scored their late, controversial winner on Saturday afternoon.

"I was devastated by the result," he admitted. "Tom Lovelock is adamant the whole ball didn't cross all of the line, though he did admit that most of it was over the line. Sam Murphy was also on the line and he was just as certain.

"This was a game that we did not deserve to lose. A draw would have been a much fairer result as both teams had chances.

"On balance, I thought we probably had the better chances, they were spread amonst the team and we really needed to take one of these chances to take the game away from them.

"I thought we had our set-up to take on Tonbridge absolutely right. But I felt that we desperately needed a second goal, ideally before they equalised and we had good chances to do that.

"No complaints from me in regards to the attitude and effort from all of the players. I have been trying to put together a squad like this all season and last. It has taken me longer than I would of liked to get the right balance. We are as strong now as we have been for a couple of seasons.

"Four weeks ago, I gave the players a target for points from our last ten matches – broken into four quarters (three, three, two and two) and we have achieved the first two. What is disappointing is that we have lost the third game of the first two batches but reached points target. The next two games will be pivotal, if we can achieve a maximum return then I think we will hold our destiny in our own hands.

"I have been telling the players that we have to quickly turn the page after every game in this run, win or lose. The players will have to show great mental strength after what happened on Saturday, but I have full confidence that they will be able to do it.

"Saturday's game at Folkestone is absolutely massive for us, just as it is for them."
