The first team completed a league double over Leiston this afternoon thanks to a 2-1 victory over the play-off contenders. Whilst the Greens remain in 23rd position in the table, they have at least closed the gap in terms of points needed to escape the relegation zone.
It was another hard-working committed performance from the squad, but when Matt Blake put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute, it looked like it was going to be a repeat of recent games where the quality in the final third was lacking.
But that was not the case this afternoon, and was shown in the 41st minute when Keagan Cole was set up by Reis Stanislaus to equalise, and it was Stanislaus who was on target himself shortly after the break as he completed a good move involving a number of players including Kezie Ibe.
Things were made tougher for the last 15 minutes after Arthur Lee was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity - but Leiston found Tom Lovelock in superb form between the sticks, making some excellent saves, whilst the defence were putting their bodies on the line.
Next up for the Greens is the rearranged home game against Billericay Town on Tuesday evening, kick off 7:45pm.
