The first team came away from Canvey Island empty handed this evening as they were beaten 3-1 at Park Lane.
The home side had the better of the opening exchanges, but just as it seemed the Greens were getting back in the game, some lax defending allowed Tony Stokes to give Canvey the lead in the 32nd minute. An uncharacteristic slip by Chris Seeby then allowed Jack Simmons to double the lead. However, Casey Maclaren, pulled a goal back just before half time to go into the break with some home.
The second half performance from the Greens was one of desire and character as they pushed to get an equaliser, with chances falling to Luke Tingey, Arthur Lee and Niko Muir, but it was Canvey who found the net again when George Sykes completed the scoring with fifteen minutes to go.
Next up is the home FA Cup tie against AFC Rushden & Diamonds - kick off at SJP is at 3.00pm on Saturday afternoon.
