The first team put in an excellent performance this afternoon as they progressed into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 5-2 win over Cheshunt.
The Greens took the lead in the 2nd minute when Karl Oliyide turned the ball home after Luke Tingey had turned the ball goalwards, and in the 10th minute the lead was doubled when Mayo Balogun scored an outstanding individual goal. The left back picked up the ball on the left wing, jinked his way into the box and slammed the ball across the keeper into the far top corner.
Oliyide was on the scoresheet again in the 35 minute with a beautifully controlled low finish, but Cheshunt pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time when Joe Kizzi was allowed a free header from a corner.
Hendon continued to play the better football, and on the hour mark were awarded a penalty when Chris Seeby was shoved over in the box. Unfortunately Spencer McCall's spot kick was well saved, but the fourth goal came two minutes later when Oliyide hit a low cross along the by line which hit Kezie Ibe and then the back of the net.
The fifth goal came in the 69th minute when Niko Muir touched home a low free kick from McCall, and had it not been for the fine form of Cheshunt keeper Michael Gooch, the Greens could have had more.
However, the only other goal came in the form of a late consolation from Kizzi who stabbed a rebond home after his first effort had hit the crossbar.
The draw for the second qualifying round is due to be made on Monday, and we'll bring you news through the usual channels as soon as we can.
Next up for the first team is a trip to Metropolitan Police next Saturday, kick off 3:00pm at Imber Court.
