A superb free kick from Steve Wales was enough to earn Wingate & Finchley a 1-0 win over the Greens at a windy Maurice Rebak Stadium this afternoon.
The first half hour saw Hendon control the game, but the final ball or efforts on goal weren't quite up to the standard required and Shane Gore was left largely untested.
Whilst there was a hint of the free kick being wind assisted - it was superbly fired into the top corner of the net by Wales, giving Berkley Laurencin no chance.
The second half was frustrating for visiting supporters as possession was relinquished on too many occasions and chances in front of goal were at a premium ensuring the home side could win the game with a degree of comfort.
Everyone will be looking for a distinct improvement when Burgess Hill Town visit SJP on Tuesday evening.
