Gary McCann felt that a point apience from the Canvey Island game at the weekend was the right outcome. He said, "It was a game of two halves and I think it was a fair result. Canvey might feel that their second half performance merited more, but we were on top for most of the first 45.

"For the first 44 minutes we were very good and really should have scored more than once. But we were given a warning just before they scored and didn't learn from it.

"The equaliser knocked us out of our stride and while it gave them hope, we lost our momentum a bit.

"We then had a couple of players going off injured and had to change our shape slightly. It could have made things even more difficult, but I thought we coped very well and showed excellent resilience in dealing with it.

"After they scored their second goal, we did very well to get back into the game so quickly to make it 2-2. Then, in the final 10 or so minutes, it was anybody's game, but we had the best late chance to win it.

"We played with a very youthful look to us with five under-21s in the squad. I was really pleased with our youngsters, especially Keagan Cole on his first home league start, Brandon Adams who took the equalising penalty with maturity and Finnbar Robins, who gives us that little something different."
