A delighted Gary McCann was realistic about last night;s victory over Farnborough. He said, "I am delighted with the three points from the game. We were in a real pressure-kettle situation and did well. We dominated throughout the game and kept our control and discipline very well.
"I thought the balance of the team was much better, the mix of youth and experience was better and the younger players will learn a lot. I don't think there was a bad performance from anyone in the 14.
"Mark Kirby may have had his best game for us so far, Ismael Ehui and Dean Cracknell brought an immediate energy up front and Finnbar Robins and Ryan Gondoh were very hard to stop. Wesley just improves with every game. Even Joe Wright, who had almost nothing to do all night, dealt with everything that came his way.
"Make no mistake, I am fully aware that there is still an enormous amount of work needed, but there were very good signs last night. We could have won by far more than 3-0, but you can only beat what is put in front of you.
"There were so many players who are not quite familiar with each other's playing styles and strengths, this can only get better. Add in Sam Murphy and Kezie Ibe to Ehui, Robins, Gondoh, Pattie, Carl McCluskey and Cracknell and we will have a number of attacking options."
