Hendon Football Club raised over £1000 for CAD Brent in their Ryman League Charity Cup match against Maidstone.
A registered charity, CAD Brent is a strategic group made up of various charities, members and Brent Council officers, local residents, persons living with dementia and businesses who meet monthly to plan various activities.
The charity aims to create a dementia friendly borough so that all people living with memory loss, whether diagnosed or not, can continue to live active and independent lives through the support of the community where they live.
Director of Hendon FC Robert Morris said that he was delighted to have CAD Brent as the chosen charity partner for the club this season. "We are aiming to make Hendon FC the first dementia friendly sports club in Brent at our new home in Silver Jubilee Park, Kingsbury. As part of our outreach programme we are aiming to engage with as many local community groups as possible."
Charlotte Curran of CAD Brent said: "Cardiovascular disease is a high risk for developing vascular dementia and the good news is that this is largely preventable. We simply need to be more active, have a good balanced diet and stop or cut down on smoking and alcohol. However we also need to ensure those living with a diagnosis of dementia are encouraged and supported to engage in physical activity and sport and we are therefore delighted to have Hendon FC be the first sports service in Brent to work towards being dementia friendly. They have already trialled walking football and are very keen to have their resource accessible to all including those living with dementia and the families who care for them and who wish to be physically active. We send a huge thank you to all involved in agreeing for CAD Brent to be their chosen charity for fundraising and even more delighted to be working with Hendon FC on their ambition to be a dementia friendly and welcoming space"
