Following an internal disciplinary hearing, the Board of Hendon Football Club has decided the following:
- That Kevin Maclaren's registration is to be cancelled, with the cancellation suspended for two years commencing on the 1 August 2016. If, during that two year period, Kevin commits an act that is deemed, either by a match official or by any club director, as violent conduct, his registration will be cancelled immediately. Subject to meeting a number of additional conditions, Kevin will be eligible to play for the club on 1 August 2016
- That Casey Maclaren's registration is to be cancelled, with the cancellation suspended for two years commencing on the 1 February 2016. If, during that two year period, Casey commits an act that is deemed, either by a match official or by any club director, as violent conduct, his registration will be cancelled immediately. Subject to meeting a number of additional conditions, Casey will be eligible to play for the club on 1 February 2016
Simon Lawrence, Chairman of Hendon Football Club, said: "As a club, we need to strike the right balance between protecting the club's reputation and helping players, staff and supporters to be rehabilitated where it is felt that rehabilitation is desirable, necessary and worthwhile.
"The club recognises the tremendous contribution that Kevin and Casey have made to the club's on-field progression and is grateful for the immense loyalty that they have shown the club throughout their Hendon careers.
"Notwithstanding the reputational damage that has been caused as a result of both players' involvement in the incident that occurred at the Wingate & Finchley match in December 2014, the club feels that their loyalty should be repaid and so the Board has reached these decisions, having taken all of these factors into account."
Gary McCann, Manager of Hendon Football Club, said: "I was, and remain, extremely disappointed by the outcome of the FA hearing. The severity of the punishment handed to them was very extreme. The long-time loyalty that both Casey and Kevin have shown the club truly needs to be repaid and I can honestly say that their presence in and around the club, and their influence and experience on the pitch, has been greatly missed. I'm sure that this has also been noticed by our followers and I sincerely hope that all Hendon supporters will get behind both players once they get back playing."
Kevin Maclaren said: "I would like to express my sincere regret for the incident that occurred after the Wingate and Finchley game last year and resulted in me receiving a year's ban from football.
"Although I still protest my innocence, the FA have found me guilty and have been very severe in their punishment. I apologise to the club, fans, players and staff for the effect that this has had. I hold the club and its management in the very highest regard and hate that we have put them in this situation.
"Throughout the FA charge and subsequent appeals the club, its board and Gary McCann have been very supportive and have repaid the loyalty that me and Casey have shown to them over the past few years. I would like to thank them for this and I will be working hard to ensure their decision proves to be the right one.
"I would also like to thank the majority of Hendon supporters for their continued support and look forward to pulling on a Hendon shirt again and making amends"
Casey Maclaren said: "I'm obviously very disappointed with the outcome of the FA hearing and the severity of the punishment. I would like to thank Simon and Graham for their help and support through out the FA hearing and subsequent appeal.
"I have always had the greatest of respect for Hendon Football Club, Gary and the management team. I'm sorry for the position they have been put in.
"I have always taken pride in playing for Hendon and always given my all. Ultimately I would love to pull on the green shirt again. However I am not the sort of person who will stay somewhere I am not wanted. It was important to sit down with Simon, Robert and Gary. They made it clear that they were willing to repay the loyalty my brother and I have shown them over the best part of the last decade. For this I am grateful.
"I like to think I could still have an important role to play towards the back end of the season. So I'm working hard in the gym to keep my fitness and make sure I'm in the best possible shape come February. When hopefully I'm helping my team mates in a promotion chase."
The club will not be issuing any further statement in relation these decisions. Supporters are welcome, as always, to discuss any aspect of the club with Simon Lawrence or with any other member of the Board.
