Gary McCann could not hide his delight at the performance. He said, "I am delighted with the way that we played and the result. I thought it was a performance of real quality and we dominated the match throughout.
"It was a baking hot day and I made it clear to the players before the game that it was our remit to keep possesssion and we did it brilliantly, especially in the 15 or so minutes before half time.
"Our half time talk was to emphasise to the players that we had to keep our discipline and concentration. To also be ruthless when the chances were presented to us. In that period at the end of the first half I thought we should have been more than two goals to the good.
"What pleased me was the performance of every player, including Joe Wright who made two really good saves. I was delighted with the way he reacted after making that save from a header late in the second half."
