The first team began their defence of the Robert Dyas League Cup with a 2-0 win at Molesey this evening.
The first game between the clubs in 19 years saw the Greens take control of the game in the first half, taking the lead when Sam Murphy let fly from 20 yards in the 28th minute. Leon Smith doubled the lead ten minutes later with a fine curling effort beyond the diving keeper.
The star man in the second half was debutant keeper Melvin Minter, who made two superb saves to keep Molesey out, whilst at the other end Sam Flegg headed a corner wide, and Mahrez Bettache saw his effort smothered by the keeper.
The draw for the second round is yet to be made, and we'll announce it on the website as soon as it has been released by the league.
