We are one step closer to knowing who our FA Cup opponents are after AFC Rushden & Diamonds beat Oxhey Jets 5-1 last night.
The winners will now host Bedford Town in a fortnight's time in the Preliminary Round, and the winners of that tie will travel to play us on Saturday 13th September.
Should the Diamonds progress, it will be the first time we have played them following their formation in July 2011 following the demise of the old Rushden & Diamonds club. They finished third in the United Counties League last season, and will be looking to progress through the non-league pyramid in the years to come.
We have of course played Bedford Town a number of times as they were in the Isthmian League with us a few years ago. The 2-0 league win at Bedford in September 2003 saw Gary McCann make his 196th and final appearance for the club, having come out of retirement for the day to help out then manager Dave Anderson.
