A brace of goals from in-form striker Leon Smith secured all three points at Lewes yesterday evening. But it was a superb team performance that also contributed to the result, with the squad winning just about every battle throughout the 90 minutes.
The first goal came in the 21st minute of actual playing time, there had been a 16 minute stoppage for a floodlight failure, when Alex Malins handled the ball in the box, and Smith stepped up to send Rikki Banks the wrong way.
The Greens really turned the screw in the second half and were rewarded in the 66th minute when Smith scored again. However, mention must be made of Sam Flegg and Jack Bennett who kept the ball in play at the opposite end of the pitch having broken up a Lewes attack, and then launched the counter-attack that led to Smith's goal.
Whilst Lewes did push for a consolation, once again the backline held firm, earning Joe McDonnell another clean sheet.
The result means that the Greens now lie 5 points adrift of the play-offs with 7 games to go.
