As noted earlier this afternoon, Hendon manager Gary McCann was left frustrated by the late decision to call off todays league match with Hastings United. The referee made his mind up at half past two that he wasn't completely happy with one 6-yard box and was left unmoved after speaking to both managers and Hendon secretary Graham Etchell.
"It's been the bane of our season." said McCann. "We've not had a string of fixtures for two months now, and it's difficult for the players to find any consistency when they're not able to play from one week to the next. Against Cray, we were poor off the back off a three week break and lost to a team who had played in the previous week, but we improved on Tuesday night with a performance that we wanted to build on today.
"Everyone's in the same boat at the moment, but it's particularly difficult for our lads with everyone but Wealdstone having played more games than we have."
The Hendon team were taken out into the park at Vale Farm for a training session and hope to be back in action on Tuesday night for the visit of Canvey Island.
Hastings' assistant manager Simon Balsdon was unimpressed by the timing of the decision, pointing out that if the referee was going to be unmoved and it had been made an hour and a half earlier they'd have been able to turn around and wouldn't have wasted their time warming up. "It's frustrating to come all this way for nothing, and now we've got to come all the way up again on a Tuesday night."
With Cray taking all three points this afternoon at Waltham Abbey, but Carshalton only able to pick up one point against AFC Hornchuch, Hendon find themselves one place worse off in the league, dropping to 17th in the table.
