Gary McCann spoke to Greensnet this morning, with an important message for the supporters.
"Following a meeting on Monday evening I have been advised by the board of directors that the playing budget has been substantially cut for the remainder of the season. This is down to the fact it is felt that we only have a remote chance of reaching the play-offs.
"However, I am pleased to say that I have committed to the club for the rest of the season, together with Freddie Junior and Mark. The management team and directors will then re-evaluate in the summer to look at the way forward.
"We had a tough meeting with the players after training last night to explain the budget situation. We have now set them the challenge of finishing in the top half of the table, something that is well within our grasp.
"I was very pleased that virtually all of the squad have accepted the cut to their wages, particularly bearing in mind that one or two of them rely on their football money, and they have committed to me for the next ten weeks. This goes to show what a terrific group of players I have at my disposal.
"The next ten weeks are clearly going to be very busy and very tough for all of us. We have 20 games left to play, hopefully starting tomorrow at Kingstonian, and more if we beat Staines on Monday evening.
"Please do show your appreciation to the players who have committed their immediate future to the club, and your support will be vital over the next 10 weeks, so please get behind them.
"Remember, we are all in this together!"
