Gary McCann was happy with the overall display at Billericay Town last night despite the Greens riding their luck towards the end of the game.
"Our performance more than warranted a bigger scoreline. I was delighted with the overall display on a very difficult surface. Our defence, in particular, was outstanding.
"Before the game, I told the players that Billericay had not played for a while and we should take advantage of their ring rust. We did that very well and should have been 3-0 up inside the first 15 or so minutes.
"Once we had failed to add to our lead, it gave Billericay a bit of confidence and when the game went into the final stages, they took advantage. You always feel that if you don’t take your chances, the other team might just get something and nerves start showing.
"I spoke with their manager after the game and he said that it would have been a bit of travesty if we hadn't got the three points, but I have to admit - after they hit the woodwork twice - we maybe were a little lucky.
"We have got some very big games coming up and it is important that we keep up this momentum."
